So, there are 79 responses so far. Definitely, the vast majority start in the "Low" category. I'd have to count again, but it looks like most PCs are currently "Medium" level, though not by a huge margin. That seems right to me, as our original characters would be Medium by now if the DM hadnt wanted to take a break after Forge of Fury.

Tangent: I forgot to talk about ECL; if you play a character with an ECL just count their "level" as the sum of their character level and their ECL.

My PCs evolution, from level 1 to 18:

*Minor Spoilers follow*

1. The Sunless Citadel (Levels 1-2)

2. The Forge of Fury (Levels 2-4)
* The whole party was TPKed by the Great Ulfe except me! Bravely using my owl familar as a distraction (who was killed in the process) I managed to save my own skin.

3. Speaker in Dreams (Levels 4-6)
* My first death: Killed by an Enervation trap

4. The Standing Stone (Levels 6-8)

5. White Plume Mountain (Levels 8-9)

6. Heart of Nightfang Spire (Levels 9-11)
* My second death: Killed by the Mooncalf

7. Into the Dragon's Lair (Levels 11-13)
* My third death: Put into a comatose slumber by drow poison and subsequently coup-de-graced

8. Deep Horizon (Levels 13-14)
* The whole party was nearly TPKed yet again. We tried teleporting to the "end" of the module before we were of sufficient level and got pounded. I, of course, managed to escape!

9. Demon God's Fane (Levels 14-15)
* My fourth death: Killed by a Bodak's death gaze

10. The Harrowing (Levels 15-16)

11. City of the Spider Queen (Levels 16-18)
* Currently in Story Hour forum: http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33249&pagenumber=1

<added>
I was the only player in this campaign to keep one PC throughout. Everyone else had to start over after the Forge of Fury near TPK.

98 votes, so close to 100. (I wonder how many active members there are on ENWorld?)

Looking at the data, there are

30 people playing low level
37 playing medium level
21 playing high level
8 playing epic level

which I think is an interesting statistic.

Now its 9 playing epic level. We started at 4th to 6th level and now we range between 22nd to 25th level. Not too bad for 40 or so games in 1 year.

Started at 1st level in August of 2000, the month after 3e came out, in a homebrew campaign.

My character is now 16th level, we fully intend to go epic :-)

I think I'll give this one more day of bumping since the boards were a little screwy yesterday afternoon. There are 117 votes and something over 500 views, which implies that 4/5 people who view this thread remain silent. Or that everyone who votes views the thread 4 times to see how the voting is going? ;-)

Im playing three games at the moment. Two of them I am Dm'ing. My favorite game so far is one of the ones I DM where the characters started at 1st level and are currently 11th level.

What I find most rewarding is watching the characters (and their players) grow, in levels and role-playing.

My current D&D campaign started at 1st level, and has averaged 1 level per 2 session (3 months) to almost 6th level. However, we will be going much higher level than that.
