Characters in a word

OK.

Take your favourite / primary / most-oft-played character (PC or NPC) and find *one* descriptor - that is not something like 'wizardly' if they're a wizard, for example ;) - that summarises their strongest or most prominent quality, or one of several such qualities perhaps, in some cases.

Um, if you want to. :)

Gruff.

[Explanation: I play (or, rather, played) a lot of stern, former adventurers who were learned enough to know that death could lurk around any corner and who weren't in a big hurry to save X person/village/culture unless there was some tangible reward that made it worthwhile. That is, they were old enough to know that gratitude doesn't put food on the table or a roof over one's head.]

One word to summarise my 'iconic' character...

RARGH!

[Ex: In my defense, he's not my FAVOURITE character. He's just the one people remember...]

Now, my favourite characters...

Stylish.

[Ex: However they save the day, they look good doing it; swashbucklers buckle more swash than everyone, mounted people do all the fancy riding manouvers, wizards use prestidgitation for cloak blowing winds ALL the time, and i musn't forget 'Perform (Heroic Pose) (Cha)'...

Earnest.

My current paladin has titles now but isn't really "noble." He is a good, kind boy but isn't really "chivalrous." I think the best that can be said about him is that he always tries to do what's best, to the best of his ability. Earnest.

Cynical.

[This was a ranger who had a very hard time believing that what he was involved in - the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil adventure - was actually as world-shaking as people made it out to be. The fact that he was elven and a former teacher didn't help, since he'd read about hundreds of "world-ending" adventures and was aware of all the cliches. He was mildly surprised and quite amused to find that they had actually saved the world. He was completely and utterly optimistic too, which was a nice mix with the cynicism.]

Skillful.

I'm a HUGE fan of skills and I'd rather take a master of skills over a highly combative character any day of the week. Rogue was always my favorite class because of the skills. With 8 + Int, my Int being around 18 and me being human, I had a plethora of skills. :)
