I am assuming we are going to roll up characters at Vince's house on the day of the 20th. Correct? I would also encourage everyone to dispense with the usual concerns of having a well balanced party. I say, play what you feel like playing, you know? Just my thought for the month.

Jason, Dave and I made characters this evening. Sworn to secrecy on theirs, but my guy:

Nutshell description: Big farm boy sent to live with a religious order who now walks the lands with meager belongings and a simple staff, spreading the word of his peaceful warrior god. Kind of a combo Little John and Friar Tuck. Without the arrows. Maybe a little David Carradine thrown in.

Appearance-wise, he is a massive hulk of a man, towering over most everyone around him but rather than seem intimidating, he has a warm, calming presence. He maintains a pleasant and friendly demeanor. His hair is cropped close and tight. and his clothing is simple with no ornate embellishments. Despite his size, his movements are smooth, precise and fluid with eerie speed for someone so large. More of a Kareem than a Shaq.

Not sure what sort of naming conventions Inzeladun has, but I am thinking either Johan or Dzhon. And someone will have to give me some guidelines on what sort of god he could follow.

Peaceful warrior god? Does he worship Capt. James T. Kirk? "I come in peace; shoot to kill!"

Seriously, isn't that an unlikely attribute for an ancient culture's warrior god?

Here is a list of Inzeladun's gods. The top four gods are off limits for now, as are any based on Earth mythology. If you want to create your own god for inclusion, you can do that. I am going to be reworking them (as soon as I figure out the password for the site), so expect changes.

I have naming charts here at the house; names depend on nationality.

A vision comes to mind: At the moment in Inzeladun, humanity is being brushed aside and crushed. Everything is fire and blood. Likely, the religious school you attended was destroyed in the recent past. You are its only survivor. The "nobles" are those who betrayed humanity and now serve the inhuman masters in exchange for more privileges than most. It is a time ripe for the rise of heroes and powers.

Not really. By any definition I think Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and Shintoism are religions of peace and tranquility, yet those cultures gave us most of our martial arts. I mean, Buddhist monks are the stereotypical practitioners and students of martial arts.

Hell, Christianity is a "peaceful" religion that has created countless warriors over the centuries.

I think it has been very common over the centuries for religious orders to study the ways of war in the pursuit of peace. And more cynically, to study the ways of war for the pursuit of war under the guise of peace.

On a quick scan, it certainly seems like an order of Athenian monks would be a logical possibility. Studying books to honor the wisdom aspect and studying martial arts to honor the war aspect.
