D&D 5E Charge

There is no charge in the Basic Rules. I seem to recall that there was a charge in the playtest. Does anyone know if there will be a charge in the PHB?

Yes, the designers. :)

I've heard that there will be, but I don't know what form the rule will take.

Cheers!

In the last playtest it just allows you to move 1/2 speed (min 10 feet) and still attack. Thus you could both move and charge.
This is just a CTRL-F quick search

Do you really want to have someone break their NDA? Unfortunately, that's the problem with the question. The people who know can't tell you.

As I said before, I have heard that there will be charging rules, but it's one of those things I can't be 100% sure about until we actually see the book (or a designer lets us know).

Cheers!

Do you think that in this information age that NDAs are the only way to have information, especially minor information?

And no, I do not want someone to break their NDA. And yes, you pretty much answered my question. I just had to reply because of how amusing your answer was.

I'm going to go with a "no" its not.

The Basic Rules are supposed to be 99% like the PHB rules. I can't imagine something as simple as charge got overlooked on purpose. My guess is that it doesn't exist.

Which is fine, you really don't need it. You can already move your speed and attack. And an edition trying to minimize small bonuses wouldn't want +2 to hit/-2 to AC to be really easy to come by.

Its possible that charge may return in the "advanced" combat module in the DMG. I don't know. I just wouldn't be too surprised if its not in the PHB.

Sorry about that; I'm a little twitchy about NDAs.

I've pinged Mike on twitter. He'll probably ignore me, but we might get an answer.

Cheers!

If I was to wager a nickel, the fact that Charge isn't a regular action makes me guess that if it does appear in the game... it's going to appear as one of the Fighter's Battlemaster subclass maneuver options. So the trained warriors can move and then charge into battle (Dash + attack) ... everyone else can only move and then make a regular attack.

That's my guess too.
