So, any bets on if the actual online playing/character creation/all that other stuff that was planned will actually be up and running by then?

I'll bet you it's not... cause in that same article he says it's not. He says the plan of action is to start the mag/bonus tools subscription then shift primary focus to the character generator.

Step one get it ready for the beta test involving people who signed up to do it at D&D XP.

Step Two release a public beta test.

Step three make it a payable thing.

Says right in the message that it won't be. It'll just be the magazines and bonus tools to start with.

They do say that they are moving toward a beta with the character creator and that the beta will eventually be accessible to everyone.

I wish them well and am glad to hear that the quality is improving but if the magazines aren't in print, they are not for me.

Given the major programming positions that are still open for the DDI, and those that have become open in the past two weeks alone, I hate to say it, but they're pretty much boned for any chance in the next six months (if at all) of the DDI having all the features that were originally supposed to be out in full back some time ago.

Not exactly inspiring consumer optimism at this point. Charging now with what little they've got ready, even albeit at a reduced price, seems like slapping a metaphorical bandaid on the bleeding wound of a financial loss that the DDI (and Gleemax before it) have been thus far.

I'm just glad it's not going to start on exactly the 1st... I'm not buying anything until after my wedding on the 5th. Then I can rationalize buying it for my birthday on the 11th!
