These creatures ar are different kind of centaur like beings. Think were-centaur. Basically they can freely change between horse and centaur form. I believe they were an OD&D monster race. I'm wondering if there is a 3.0 or 3.5 update for them.

To the extent of my knowledge, nope.

But a werehorse template would not be too difficult to make, and then, just slap it on a centaur.

By the way, their name is the French word for horse with an extra 'l'. Cheval.

i was considering an OD&D/Mystara conversion thread. however, i have only a few sources for that world, and i want to collect a few more before tackling that. gez, didn't you have some information about monsters from mystara? like what is converted and what is not?

I can access the Mystara compendium for AD&D2, but that's about all. I don't remember if I listed its content or not.

Yes, it is in the 2nd Edition Mystara Monstrous Compendium, on page 18. I'd also love an update for the Guardian Warrior (page 56), Lupin (page 74), Rakasta (page 91), the Thoul (page 111) and the Tortle (page 115).

The CC people have already converted the thoul, it's in the Creature Catalog. As for tortles, IIRC I heard something about them being in the Campaign Classics issue of Dragon (315).
