Gameday 35 Planning Thread
This is the planning thread for Chicago Gameday 35.
Gameday 35 is being held on July 13th, 2013, at Games Plus in Mt. Prospect, IL.

What is Chicago Gameday?
How to Submit an Event
If you would like to run an event for Chicago Gameday, please follow these three steps.
1. Post your event description in this thread
Your event description must include the following:
 • Time: morning (9:30 a.m.) or afternoon (3:30 p.m.) slot;
 • Game system: e.g., "D&D 4e";
 • Event Title: e.g., "The Caves of Chaos";
 • Description: ideally, short and to the point; here are some guidelines from designer/editor Ryan Macklin;
 • An image: one you wish associated with your event description, or else state that you are happy to leave that up to me;
 • Content Rating: choose either "Kid-Friendly" or "Adults Only";
 • Number of Players: total your event can accomodate, not including yourself;
 • Table Preference: If you need a specific table or want to reserve the private room, say so in your post below. However, please be aware that table assignments may be adjusted depending on the size of your event.
2. Make sure I have a way of contacting you
Either like us on Facebook or provide me with your email address so I can add you to our mailing list. You can email me at buzz (at) buzzmo (dot) com. If you have Private Messaging enabled here at ENWorld, that works, too.
3. Subscribe to this thread on ENWorld or else make sure to check it regularly.

How to Be a Great Gameday GM
You should create a safe, friendly space for your event.
Introduce yourself and help introduce the players to each other. Be accommodating to people with special needs, e.g., someone who needs to sit closer to you in order to hear better. Be sensitive to players who let you know they are uncomfortable with certain topics your game may address; do what you can to make them comfortable. In short, treat your players as you would guests in your home.

You should be aware of how long your event lasts.
Four hours is the ideal minimum. Morning events should end with enough time left to allow you and your players to get lunch and spend some time shopping before the start of afternoon event slot. Afternoon events should keep both the Metra schedules and the store's hours in mind.

You should come to Gameday prepared to run your event
...no matter how many people have signed up for it. If you don't want to run your event, let me know as soon as possible, and I will remove it from the schedule.

Morning slot, no table preference.

I'm not sure what ill run yet. Likely candidates are another D&D Next fueled romp through a classic module and Feng Shui.
Added!

Afternoon. RPG room. TBD. I'll take requests. Possibly it will be AD&D set in Lindesfarne 793 AD with vikings, monks and Giger aliens.
Added!

Let me also remind folks that requested tables may shift during transport, i.e., may be altered depending on sign-ups. Just sayin'!

If I run the alines and vikings and monks game, I'll probably want a minis table anyway. Or maybe we'll LARP it. Who can afford a flight to Ireland?

Time: AM

Game system: Shab Al-Hiri Roach / Misspent Youth

Event title: The Indie RPG Double-Play

Description: Two games for the price of one! We will play two cool indie rpgs:

 • The Shab Al-Hiri Roach: A dark comedy of manners, lampooning academia and asking players to answer a difficult question - are you willing to swallow a soul-eating telepathic insect bent on destroying human civilization? Even for tenure?
 • Misspent Youth: Teenage rebellion in a :):):):)ed-up future. It's a story-based game where you play young punks fighting the dystopian government of the future.
I'll be taking a few shortcuts to make sure we can fit both games into the time slot, such as creating characters beforehand, but we can do this! Grrrr!

Image: enworldwj.jpg

Content rating: Rated I for Immature. Featuring bad jokes, blue language, and whatever the opposite of innuendo is. Nuendo? Open talk of dirty stuff.

Number of players: 3-4

Table preference: Something pine, not wobbly, with a good view of the ocean.

Hmmmm, feelin' a little crazy, let's try something new!

Buzz, please put me down for an event in the pm slot, Table D preferred but not required. Let's go with Monster of the Week for five players; I'll get back to you with an event description.

This has potential to end up similar to my Supernatural campaign, but on the other hand, it's a simpler set-up, and character generation happens at the table as part of the scenario, so that ought to make things interestingly different.

GameDay, w00t-w00t!!!

Afternoon slot with a 1E AD&D game for me, and I'll take the private room if Chris is giving it up to use a minis table. Otherwise, I'd like the Table H. Either way, GM plus 6 players, please. Details to follow. Thanks, Buzz, for organizing this again! :)

Understood! :)

This is a pretty cool lineup so far!

I am considering facilitating Our Last Best Hope, or possibly running Tenra Bansho Zero. I've been slowly making my way through the latter and it seems cool. And then there's the idea of trying to accomplish a Sorcerer one-shot in a single slot.

Hmm...

MotW description

Title: Eye of the Ankh

Blurb:
There are monsters out there.

Most people don't believe in them, but they're real. Mostly, when someone finds out that monsters are real, that's just before they die. But some people are mean enough, smart enough, crazy enough, or hurt enough, that they live. And some of those people go and hunt down more. That's who you are – someone who decided to go on a crusade against the evil critters that are scurrying around out there. The one sure thing is you aren't gonna go back to your old, safe life.

When you and your monster-hunting friends hear about some bizarre bodies turning up in a mid-sized town, you of course go to investigate. The bizarre part is, the bodies are in different conditions- -one was practically shredded, another desiccated, another seems to have been the victim of a wild animal attack...could there be multiple monsters?

Monster of the Week is a modern action-horror game built on the Apocalypse World engine. It's an improvisational narrative-driven game, meaning the characters and group story drive the mechanics, not the other way around. Just bring a pencil and maybe 2d6, rules will be taught at the table. The first hour of the game will be character creation, which is designed to give the characters a shared history and connections with one another.
