Chicago Gameday June 22nd - Aftermath Thread!

A good, loud time was had by all. I ruined my voice running that second slot pickup game. It was supposed to be Spycraft set in Chicago and the Yucatan, 1938 ... but we just used D&D rules instead. I had a blast, really.

I couldn't believe the goodies that were being given out. KenzerCo, BadAxe and Mr. Noah were all mighty generous. (I hadn't seen anything from BadAxe before yesterday ... those lil' dwarf books look great; lively, animated art, handsome layout and a fun size).

Thanks to Mark for the first-round D&D3E game (my first time playing after running the game every week for two years!). Likewise, big thanks to the other caravan saviors. You made fun of me ... but I didn't any damage the whole adventure!

And my hat's off to Piratecat (whom I sat across from at breakfast but haven't really met) for running kick-ass games using two underappreciated systems (Feng Shui and the SAGA system). Just overhearing those games was entertaining.

Thanks also to Games Plus ... I am truly sorry I didn't spend more money when I was there, but I did get to see my book in a store for the first time!

Finally thanks to Mark for taking the pains to organize these gamedays. It was amazingly fun. (And you can keep your evil d6s loaded to eternally roll 1s!) I can't wait for the next one!

I'm glad you had fun. I've started a thread on my message boards to accomodate a possible continuation here. Hopefully we'll be able to get together and your dice will roll like thunder! :)

I learned two things among the fun I had Saturday.

1. Never be sneaky when the mission appears to call for you to be sneaky.

2. Don't mess with primatives with long guns until you are sure that they are not elite super commando primatives with long guns.

Actually I learned three things but the last is not fit for public consumption.

Argh! Apologies to Wulf for forgetting Bad Axe Games. :o Big "D'oh!" to me--I even voted for your book in the "Which Dwarf Book Will You Buy?" Poll. And I still want your Bad Axe t-shirt! :D

You snuck out before I had a chance to grab you at the end of the day... JoeGKushner didn't show up to grab the review copy I had earmarked for him, so I was going to give it to you. (Your sad face when the d20 swag roll didn't go your way was too much to handle.)

As it turns out your loss was Mark's gain-- but if you email me your address I will make sure you get an advance copy.

I am still checking with my guys to see who among us threw up the temporary cafepress site, when I find out where the T-shirts are, I will let you know!

No problem. It was a pleasure having lunch with you and Curt. Hopefully I can sit in on a game with you two at some time.

Thanks for clearing that up. It was enjoyable grabbing lunch with you, too, DocM. See you at the next GameDay if not sooner... :)

The Gameday really was a whole lot of fun. I can't imagine a smoother-run event, especially since there were about 45 people there at various times during the day. At the end of the night, thalmin/Curt asked what he could do to make it better, and I really couldn't think of anything (and trust me, I would have spoken up if there was). In turn, I asked him waht we as players could do to make things easier for him, and he really couldn't think of anything, either. Sounds like a successful event to me.

The freebies from Kenzer and Bad Axe were a great extra for the day, too. Kid Charlemagne brought Krispy Cremes for those of us who didn't make the group breakfast. This is a reflection of the laid-back, fun atmosphere we got to enjoy. (I got to meet Eric for the first time, too, which was neat - have you ever thought about what an interesting Internet success story this whole website is? And it's all Eric's fault!)

I know I enjoyed the games I participated in, and from what I overheard, most of the other games went well, too. I was in the Slot 1 OF SOUND MIND game run by Trevalon, which was neat since the writer was on the other side of the room making his players bark in the Marvel Supers game (Trev's face when PirateCat walked in was priceless - I think he was freaked at the prospect of him looking over his shoulder during the game :). And in case anyone had any doubts, PirateCat is the consummate gamemaster - possessing total command of the rules, effective explaination of the game rules to those of us who had never used the Feng Shui system (which was six of the seven of us), perfect pacing of the game, good voice acting when necessary, and good humor through the whole game. And his scenario was imaginative as you might imagine (first words: "You'er in freefall. Moments ago, you were on a plane on its way to San Francisco...").

I also took some photos that I will develop (sorry to those of you who are still blinking form the flash), and perhaps Mark can post them at his site, since I am currently bereft of web hosting space.

Again, thanks to the organizers, the GMs, and the players, too! I'm looking forward to next time.
