Thalmin and I did some scouting (actually just talking about hotels in the area and looking things up in the phone book) and here's a few:

Your best bet is probably the Best Value Inn on Northwest Highway. It's not too far from the store and is $55 - $60 per night. Their number is 847-255-2900.

There is also a decent Motel 6 in Arlington Heights (on Algonquin Road, right by the Arlington Heights road exit on I90). I believe they're usually in the $50 range. They would be easy to find from the highway, but a little more difficult to get to the store from.

There is also a Red Roof Inn in Arlington Heights, but I don't know too much about them.

Finally, thalmin and I noticed an ad for the Rand Manor Motel. While we can't necessarily recommend it, the Rand Manor Motel is apparently the "Home of the Four-Hour Happy Nap." And that phrase is a registered trademark, so don't go advertising your own homes as places for "happy naps". They have hourly and weekly rates for this adults only establishment featuring mirrored rooms. I suppose by "adults only" they mean no kids in the swimming pool and the only movies you can order are "My Dinner with Andre" and Nixon. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

Later,
Matt

Thank you sir for your kind detective work! As well as for your scathing expose of the dark underbelly of Arlington Heights, IL. :D

I would avoid any place with hourly rates. Nuff said :)

But just imagine a horde of us gamers descending on the motel en masse, all demanding four-hour happy naps! Really, who amongst us couldn't use a "happy nap" to refresh in the middle of the Gameday?

Okay, I feel dirty and ashamed. Forget I mentioned anything. Synnibarr must be messing with my brain.

Later,
Matt

A couple minor corrections to the motel listings. The Best Value Inn is in Arlington Hts., but Des Plaines gets to claim the Rand Manor Motel.
BTW, all motels on Matty's list are within 10 minutes drive from Games Plus.

Viking Game summary - A recent raid has left your ranks decimated but you've uncovered a map. Some obvious markings on it bear a resemblance to landmarks nearby, others hint at a treasure far greater than a hundred raids could garner. Going inland to seek this treasure could be dangerous and takes you away from the safety of your boats but your leader, who has just expired, muttered something about a long lost legend...

More to come on game two later! :)

Thanks for the update, Mark.

Should we create our own Vikings for the game or will you have pre-gens?

Thanks,
Matt

Hey, guys!

Buzz successfully enticed me to check out Game Day. I missed the last Game Day getting snowed in on the east coast- I will make this one! I would like to play in Mark's morning D&D 3e game (Game 1). I will have to brush up on my Viking history... Are the characters pre-gens, or should players bring them? What level?

I am interested in playing in the afternoon as well, but will wait to commit a few more days to see if there might be a d20 Modern game added... <big hint>

same here, I'm torn between mark's afternoon mystery game (which is filling up fast) or waiting for a d20 modern game to spring up. which will probably happen after I sign up for something else.

I'd like people to send me concepts right away and I'll have pregens for the Viking game sometime down the road. Be ready to be playing a Barbarian, Druid, Expert, Fighter, Rogue or Sorcerer. They'll be 10th-level characters. First come first serve, and that means sending the concept to me, not just laying claim to it on this board.

Don't be a straggler cause I don't want to have to completely dictate the concepts. I have an odd sense of humor and am not above making your character a village idiot. ;)

On a sad note, pat_b won't be able to play in my slot two game because I have some material he has seen that I plan to use. Sorry pat_b but at least we'll always have Midgard... :D
