Dark Champions character bios

These are the bios of the pregens that will be made available for the Dark Champions: The Animated Series event. They're probably far too wordy for a one-shot, but that's why I'm posting them beforehand. :) Enjoy!

Dark Angel: One wrong turn down a deserted street late at night was all it took for Hudson City's gangs to claim another victim in Stacy Hunter. Thankfully, a good Samaritan in a passing car was able to scare off the attackers before they could do irreparable harm. Finding solace in work proved less than enough during her recovery, and while on a business trip to Tokyo, Stacy began to delve into karate as a means to heal and gain her confidence back. Her training paid off in a black belt in the martial art, and in the ability to assume the role of good Samaritan when she saw a group of young punks attacking another young woman. The sense of reward in being able to help soon became a driving force in her life, and she assumed the identity of the costumed crimefighter Dark Angel, avenger of crime victims everywhere.

Seraph: Angelina Obukov was on the fast track to becoming a top-ranking member of Eastwood's all-girl gang, the Lady Killers. She was a demure-looking slavic girl who could punch like a veteran mafioski and could make a motorcycle fly like a magic carpet. A night out joyriding came to a horrific end when she returned home to find her mother and father beaten near to death by Russian mobsters trying to collect on an old loan taken out when her family had fallen upon hard times. At the same time, the Lady Killers began to talk of getting into the protection racket. Angelina refused to continue on a path that would make her like the people who hurt her parents. She left the gang and vowed to make something of her life. Eventually, she secured an internship with BETV, working with Stacy Hunter. Angelina unwittingly stumbled upon Stacy's secret identity as Dark Angel, and immediately felt a calling. She adopted the role of Seraph and has been fighting alongside Dark Angel ever since.

Trickshot: Aaron Harrow was born into a circus family, along with his brother Abe. The circus archer and trickshot artist took Aaron under his wing, while Abe, who was born covered in thick, coarse hair, was destined for the freakshow tent and dubbed "The Missing Link". Abe ran away from that humiliating circus life when he was eighteen. Aaron vowed to find his brother and look after him. Both were drawn to nearby Hudson City, and Aaron soon saw the headlines announcing his brother's criminal activities as "The Missing Link", a hulking criminal with gorilla henchmen. In an effort to stop him, Aaron crafted the persona of Trickshot and has acted to thwart his brother's crime sprees. Aaron has seen what the city has done to his once happy and gentle brother, and he aims to stop it from doing the same to others.

Jack Knight: Johnny Kwon spent his early life bouncing from one foster home to another. The one constant in his life was kung fu, an art that kept him connected to his culture and promised a lucrative job as an enforcer for the Sing Chun tong. He didn't wait to join the tong before getting some "on the job" experience, though. The wannabe gang he ran with decided to ransack Collins Guns and Surplus one night. The "heist" was cut short when he showed up: Jack Knight. The other gang members turned tail and ran, but Johnny couldn't resist the urge to test his skills against the infamous vigilante. Jack Knight took him down in a minute, though that was 50 seconds more than the usual thug. "You can continue getting into trouble and wind up dead," Knight said, "or you can use those fancy moves to do some good. Meet me at the Four Dragons tomorrow night if you've got a conscience in there somewhere." Johnny did, and so began his apprenticeship to millionaire Barton Kane, the second person to assume the mantle of Jack Knight. Soon Barton retired and passed the cowl to Johnny, and the legend of Jack Knight continues.

Cavalier: Warren Saenz wanted to be a cop, just like his old man. He spent all the time he could down at the precinct house when he was growing up, and when he made it into the academy, he worked harder than any cadet on record. Soon he had earned his badge and was ready to protect the good folk of Hudson City, just like Dad. But being a cop isn't just about doing good; it's also about upholding the law, even when that means letting a criminal walk free when a jury won't convict. It was hard for Warren to see so many bad people use the legal system to their advantage, but what could he do? Corrupt as it was, the system was worth fighitng for. But when the day came that he found out his own father was on the take, he reached his limit. Warren's anger got the better of him and a routine arrest turned into police brutality; he was asked to hand in his badge. There had to be another way. A chance meeting with Jack Knight and some gang-bangers in LeMastre Park gave him his answer. Helping the crimefighter defeat the gang led to a partnership. Now he was Cavalier, and now he could do some good.

Madame Voodoo: Evangeline Vincent's family moved to Hudson City's Crown Point neighborhood when she was just a child. Stories about her great-grandmother practicing voodoo back in Louisiana inspired Evangeline to try and confirm some of them when she went "back home" as a teenager one summer. Her great-aunt confirmed those stories and more, introducing Evangeline to the voodoo faith. Back in the city, she began doing readings and fortune-telling out of her mother's hair salon, making quite a reputation for herself. She could read people well; she had genuine intuition. It wasn't too long before a cop facing a dead-end in a series of art robberies came to Evangeline for advice. Somehow, she was able to piece together clues in a way the officer had overlooked, and a lark turned into a solved crime. While not officially approved by the HCPD, Evangeline found she had regular business with the police, especially with costumed criminal cases. "Madame Voodoo" was what they called her, and she was happy to adopt the persona.

Hmmmm...

Jack Knight... Kung Fu is always fun. Unless you'd rather I'd speak all afternoon with another funny accent, in which case I could always be Madame Voodoo. ;)

You know, when I wrote up the character, I thought to myself, "Pb is going to want to play her, and he's going to do a funny accent." :)

Kung fu or voice fu, it's all good.

Well, I am still working on everything for Saturday. (I am adding some tweaks to the adventure and creating characters.)

Hopefully, we can get a few more people to register before then.

 I now own a special pre-release copy of Green Ronin's d20 Thieves World sent to me by one of my distributors.I will have it at the GameDay so anyone can get a look through it.

I am hoping that we get enough last minute registrants to fill up the games currently with 3 players or less so it is viable enough to even play them. It would be tough to compete and survive against the bad guys in a game with only a few players in it. Historically in past Gameday's, I have not seen many walk-in players to fill in the empty seats especially for the morning slot since many gamers like to sleep late and shuffle on in the afternoon. I believe that many of the potential walk-in players think it is a "members only" event and do not ask many questions past that thought. It might help to post a sign at the front doors saying something like "Gameday" and "Walk In's Welcome". Just a thought.
