For gaming nights downtown, it's always thin crust from Pat's Pizza on south Clark.
Another from Dingleberry's gaming group chiming in here. Yeah, Pat's.
It's astonishing, really. You get a large (we always get the thin crust. I know this is heresy among some Chicago pizza circles, but in the case of Pat's, it's the way to go), and it's Chicago cut (squares), and you pick up a little piece and eat it and it's really just a few bites and it's gone. It tastes great. Nice. I'll have another piece. A few bites, gone. Excellent. Plenty of room left in the ol' GI system. Garcon, another slice, if you please.
Before you know it, you've eaten practically the whole pizza (if I was still 19, I bet I could put away an entire large, no problem). It's like popcorn. You pop a piece in, one at a time, and next thing you know, the box is empty. We've tried ordering other things from Pat's and they're just not as good. The pizza, however . . . oh, dear lord, the pizza . . .
And the delivery is awesome. Every time we call, they say, "40 minutes to an hour." They've never taken more than 30 minutes to deliver, and it's usually around 20 minutes, even in the worst weather, or on a busy night. We've started joking that they just make our order every Monday night, betting that we'll call. If we don't, hey, cool, they eat the pizza. Otherwise, they've got it waiting, and when our call comes in on the light-up-emergency-bat-signal red phone, they just box it and step out the door.
