I wish I did... The look on their faces/emotional progression was priceless...
Went from general curiosity and amusement to happy humor at meeting this bizare little man and purchasing stuff... to confusion about what just happened, to anger at being tricked, to flat out fear as the realized he was quite powerfull, and finally sadness at the loss of one of their friends.
(I run an anything goes type of campaign... Not every encounter will be tailored to their level.)

It's too bad the Ennies don't have a "Rat Bastard DM" award. If they did, I would nominate you for it. That's awesome.

I did something close in theme to that for my first 3e adventure when we converted, but it wasn't as cool. The PCs found out that the trained bears in a circus were polymorphed people. The dwarven animal trainer pointed them towards "Mesmero the Magnificent," illusionist. By the time that the captured Mesmero proclaimed his innocence, the dwarf was legging it for the hills. See, my whole gaming group was still stuck in a 2nd edition mindset -- and no one even considered that a dwarf could be a wizard.
Really though, Scribble - you beat me by a country mile. Kudos.
