Child with a Gun

I remember reading some years back about a new trend of bad guys painting their guns in garish fluorescent colours to make them look like toys - presumably to provoke a hesitation response if it came to a confrontation with cops...

Why is it assumed that anyone that carries a gun is a crazy maniac? I own a shotgun, and in Virginia it's completely legal to OPEN carry a handgun. I don't see why there is a knee-jerk reaction to people carrying a firearm.

Hell, you get into a car everyday and are far more likely to die behind the wheel than from a bullet. *shrugs* People = alarmists.

Erm, I think the OPs criticism is not that the child had a gun, but had it in a restaurant.

In this day and age if I saw you carrying a weapon in public and it wasn't to your car, house, shooting range or into the woods, you'd bet I'd call the cops.

I'd much rather have you explaining your intent to the local authorities than feel any potential guilt that I could have prevented someone's harm. Its not being an alarmist, its keeping an eye out for people's safety.

Gonna have to agree with Bento. Do people walk into restaurants brandishing weapons? I seriously doubt it is an everyday occurance. Bad things do actually happen. After you have a family to think about especially, I have nothing against erring on the side of caution.
