a wizard could cast spells as a sorcerer (spontaneously, using the sorcerer's spells per day list, spells known list, and progression).

a sorcerer could cast spells as a wizard (prepared from a spellbook, using the wizard's spells per day list, spells known list, and progression).

same thing for cleric/oracle.

would this work?

You could... but let me give you an alternative (at least for the Sorcerer/Wizard).

Play an arcanist! They are a mixture of both classes and really kick serious ass (I'm playing one right now).

As for the Cleric/oracle... well, you could switch the spell casting... but bear in mind that the cleric "method" is a bit more powerful. However, I don't think that it would unbalance things too much. Oracles move from tier 2 to tier 1, but that's about it.

Well, originally (that is, in 3.0e) the reason the Sorcerer existed was in order to offer the alternate casting mechanic. It's only over time that the two classes have diverged. (There were, of course, a few more differences - but not very many.)

But, yeah, it should work okay.
