Chris Nolan to direct next Batman

As reported by the September 5th issue of Entertainment Weekly, Christopher Nolan, director of Memento and Insomnia, will helm the next Batflick. Among his considerations to star as the Caped Crusader are Christian Bale (Equilibrium) and Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Princess Mononoke). Awesome.

Just like Highlander, Batman seems to be one of those franchises that Hollywood refuses to let die in peace.

The original Batman was great, Batman Returns was decent, Batman Forever was bad, and Batman & Robin was downright painful to watch.

Hopefully that explains why I don't have a lot of faith in the next Batman movie.

Isn't he the guy that asked Josh Hartnett more than once to play Batman? I hope it's good, but from everything I've heard, I'm not very optimistic about the future of any of the potential DC movies.

I thought that all of the live-action Batman movies have been awful, including the first one.

The best Batman movie is definitely the animated Mask of the Phantasm

What? Adam West wasn't available? Seriously though, if they ever get that Batman Beyond script into production I think it would be great to see West playing the old Bruce Wayne.

No, this is the first time Nolan has been attached to the project. When Bret (Rush Hour) Ratner was planned to helm the next Superman installment, he strongly coveted Hartnett to play the Man of Steel, however. Hartnett initially agreed, then passed when he discovered the studio demanded a three picture contract.

Then Ratner cried like a baby, claimed that it was too much of a headache to cast the film, and quit.
