general - perfect dnd

I tinker with everything I play, regardless of the genre.

To me, the ultimate RPG system is setting neutral, streamlined for rapid task and combat resolution, and highly adaptable to whatever genre you want to throw at it.

I used to think along these lines, but am increasingly beginning to think that genre specific, or perhaps more accurately, style specific rules have a lot of advantages.

Which is why I tinker. I want the rules to model the world as I see it. In cases where they don't, I tinker. For example, a more skilled warrior will do more damage with a weapon than a less skilled one. In the RAW, the characters BAB has no direct bearing on damage. So I use a resisted attack/defense roll system, with the 'overkill' being transferred to damage. I also use a wound penalty system, because it should be harder to function when you are wounded.
