I think I have a to second most everything here so far.
CAPES is a great little RPG, but I think it does take some mature people to play - ones who are comfortable story-telling. I don't think young kids would do well with this game. It's great fun, though. I still need to buy it myself.
If you like old-school style D&D, check out Castles and Crusades. It's a rules-light version of D&D, which is more like first edition in simplicity and feel.
