Christmas Songs from the Southern Hemisphere

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of children's songs. You don't hear those on the radio. None of those other ones you mentioned get any mainstream airplay, either. They're all pretty niche.
Fair enough, but all this make it on to Christmas Albums and even televised via Christmas in the Park events. The whole Christmas song industry is pretty niche

It's been a looooong time since I went to (or watched on TV) the Christmas in the Park show. My kids are growing up!

Are you based in NZ?

a man named Pukunui should know Pukeko in a Punga Tree!

Mele Kalikimaka was once kinda popular (though Bing and the Andrew Sisters are a bit dated now )

Aotearoa New Zealand
Christmas in New Zealand - "the time is right for barbecues and swimming across the bay"
country singer Dennis Marsh put out a Christmas Album
Te Harinui - faith song about the first Christmas Sermon in NZ 1814 "not on a snowy night, by star or candlelight"

and Ronan Keating (and Julian Denison) did a Summer Wonderland song as an Air New Zealand ad

most other NZ Christmas songs are child focussed, or traditional carols, a few country singers do Christmas covers though. Last Christmas and Feliz Navida also get a lot of air play

Australia has a few Christmas novelty songs
Christmas Where the Gum Trees Grow "there is no frost there is no snow, Australia is hot, cold and frosty it is not!"
Aussie Jingle Bells - novelty version of Jingle Bells "its Christmas time and I am in my singlet shorts and thongs"
Kevin Bloody Wilson did a popular novelty song about Santa not bringing him a bike- but its not Grandma friendly

We were listening to the Kevin Bloody Wilson Santa song in the 80s. Age 10 or so.

Its on YouTube. I'm not linking it.

Its a "classic" down under song for those of us of a certain age. Hence Pukunui not bring familiar with it.

Hey Santa Claus KBW on youtube will find it. Really not suitable for grandma. Note things are a bit more casual in Oz and NZ regarding swear words.

His gimmick is an Australian yobbo. He has a unique approach to Jehovah Witnesses knocking on the door anyway.

You're not kidding! I was really taken aback by that when I first moved here and am still occasionally surprised by it.

That sings 1980s casual by Australian standards.
. They've tried to cancel him multiple times. His response was basically get Fed and announces a tour that sells out.

I checked an old stereo I've mothballed. Hasn't been plugged in since 2010. The double cassettes have poison flesh and blood. I bought that 1990. The other side Kevin Bloody Wilsons greatest hits. A D&D player brought it round 2000 or so. Its got left in the stereo.

I had his Kevs Vack Return of the Yobbo album aged 11 or so. Neighbors kid had the one after that. With dubs we had about 4 of his albums.

Parents allowed it lol. Older stepbrother had it so of course we wanted it.

I've never listened to anything by KBW. I was thinking more along the lines of how you can hear swearing (except the F word) on live TV here, and malls and shops play the original versions of songs with swears, not the radio friendly edits, and so on.
