Chucking big rocks

Some giants and giant-ish creatures have the ability to throw rocks. So the question is: are there any rules for the availability of rocks? Do they carry it around? Or do they have to look for one?

An extreme case is the hecatoncheires, which has a hundred rock-throwing attacks. Does it carry its rocks with it (all hundred of them), or what?

No rules for availability. The MM says that giants' bags usually hold "a supply of throwing rocks". Most published encounters will have a stack of rocks for giant guards. In my campaign, giants are usually travelling in areas where there is a ready supply of rocks (hills & mountains, etc.).

My house rule is that a giant (or anyone) can spend a full round action to pick up and throw a rock, so long as rocks can be found in that environment (so no sandy deserts). If there is time to pile the rocks, then I just consider it to be ammunition.
