"No, I've just been whiling away my time, singing around town. I returned not long ago from some work in and around Monemvassia where one of my companions went missing. I've been hoping to get a message about her, if she's still alive. But you know, if you're looking for a job, stick around here and the job will come looking for you."

Mordik nods, then seems to pay sole attention to his ale as he drinks. After a moment he replies,
[smallcaps]Hope yer friend is alive and safe. Ne'er had a friend turn up missing, but ne'er had very many friends.[/smallcaps]

Nurlan extends his greeting to the truthseeker and the dwarf. "Welcome, Eanos and Mordik. Why don't you join us? I'm Nurlan, this is Eroin. You all sound like you're new to this place."

Eanos moves to take a seat at the table with the others.

"Pleasure to meet you all," he says as he sits. Then that shy half-smile returns. "New, indeed. I'm from--I grew up in the Silverwood. Only recently took to the road, but I've been hearing tales of the Red Dragon just about anywhere I stop and mention my ambitions."

Eanos turns to Nurlan and tips his glass. "Here's hoping you hear news of your friend soon, and that it's all of it good."

Nurlan replies

"I definitely hope so. But it's been a while. She went off alone after a vile rogue we were trying to arrest, and we lost her trail. But this seems the time and place for more cheerful thoughts. How about a song? Here's a drinking song I picked up on my travels from the gnomes of Starjani." He then starts a rousing chorus which will sound like nonsense syllables to anyone unfamiliar with the Gnomish language. If anyone present can speak Gnomish, however, they will understand lyrics extolling the virtue of beer as the greatest of all inventions, since it has a way of making all life's problems disappear.

Eanos leans back and enjoys the song, though he doesn't join in. When Nurlan's finished, Eanos lifts his glass to the man again, saying "Bravo, Nurlan. I envy your obvious gift for tongues. No doubt it comes in useful in this business?"

"Useful in all my businesses, I daresay. As a minstrel I learn songs from all manner of travelling folk, and like to speak to them in their own languages if possible. And as an adventurer... recently I was involved with a few friends raiding a goblin fortress. The goblins captured Irene, but I was able to impress one of the goblins enough to get her to help us. By speaking in her own language I was able to get her to take us to the prisoner, whom we then freed.

He pauses, evidently thinking of the aforementioned Irene. Then he asks Eanos, "What about you? Do you speak any foreign languages?"

Nurlan replies, "Orcish... that's one I've never had the chance to learn. Dwarven too. Perhaps you could teach me?"

There's a partial map at the beginning of this thread, with detailed descriptions of some places (still being organized, not currently in the most convenient format) in the Atlas and Almanac thread and in El Jefe's thorough geographical recap in progress. You might also look at the LEW wiki, which is easier to browse but not authoritative, very incomplete, and occasionally inaccurate.
