*He grumbles a bit and downs his whole mug, grabbing another.*

"Bettin' there's stories w'a name like that," Thurgan commented. "Orcs 'er trouble, that's fer sure." Thinking for a moment or two about Dagummit's comment, Thurgan added, "I 'spose so, had my share a bit back . . . Inn's pretty safe fer that, I reckon."

Not a job offer

A man enters the inn, in leather armor, brown eyes and hair. He scans the inn, then walks up to Joe. As he is informed of the custom to announce name and business, he answers "I am Samuel, of the Lathirn City Watch. I was hoping to find a certain Azaroth van Haydren, or one of his companions. They are investigating something of immediate interest to me. Should they come here, I'd like these letters to be handed to them. They are private, and I trust them to be kept as such." He hands a few letters to Joe, then leaves the inn again.

*Dagummit sighs.*

"Thar's al'ays a story...p'raps tha'll make a fine dwarven song 'bout it some day, fer 'twas a fine battle..." Dagummit replies, not paying much attention to anything but his ale.

*Meanwhile, the little human girl, perhaps about four years old or a little bit older, climbs up onto a stool at the bar with some difficulty before saying:*

"Hiya Mister Thurgan and Mister Furball. I'm Laynie!"

"Name don't mean nothin' ta me, Joe," Thurgan commented as the watchman left. " 'Course, I jus' got here a bit ago . . . ."

*Thurgan nodded sagely, taking a heady swallow of dwarven ale, then smoothing his mustache and beard afterward.*

Laynie said:
"Hiya Mister Thurgan and Mister Furball. I'm Laynie!"
"Heya, there, lil one," Thurgan said with a twinkle in his eye. Almost as if it was a secret, Thurgan leaned out of his chair a bit to stage whisper to the girl, "Furball ain't his name, lil one, his real name's Mearran. Don't know the pup's name, now."

*Thurgan was thoughtful as he rifled his pack, check if he had any dwarven children's toys he had crafted in the last year.*

"Pup? You mean like a doggie?" the little blond-haired girl asks, tears welling up in her big blue eyes as she begins to sob uncontrollably.

"Oiwe, wha'd I say?" Thurgan said. "Right there . . . ," pointing to the dog next to Mearran, "tha' dog right there . . . he do somethin' ta ya, lil one?"

Laynie said:
"The...the..." she breaks into tears and sobs again, "The evil Scun killed my doggie, and now I'm all alone!"
"Evil scun?!?" Thurgan asked. He blubbered trying to come up with something to say to the kid to ease her tears. "Umm . . . err . . . sorry . . . 'bout that . . . err . . . Joe, get the kid a drink . . . on me."

"Yes! The evil Scun was a big mean monster that looks like a pig-man, but then it lied and said it wanted to help, and then it killed doggie!!!" Laynie continues to cry.

"Err...Tha girl had a monster fer a pet tha' took care a' her, and it was knocked senseless while takin' a hit to save one of me mates, so they decided ta kill it."
