OOC - if it's largely a wilderness adventure, then Taelythenihel and Ossa would be up for it... assuming she finds acceptance with the rest of the party.

OOC: We'll be heading to a party for big brother, so the travel is wilderness, but I think it will be social at the end. All I know is I'll need to hire protection for the trip.

OOC - Ossa isn't really what you would call the life and soul of the party. I suppose she could be kept out of the way. Hrmm.

Joe smiles and hands Shadya a letter. "From your father."

[sblock=The Letter: ]Shadya,

Your brother Rais has returned from his travels, and he will soon become a Dervish of the Sairundan! He need only pass the Test of the Fifteen Winds. Your brother and I wish for you to attend his Dervish trials, it will be a grand celebration. Two full moons from the writing of this letter is when the trials shall take place. It has been two years since you left us, and my heart aches from the absence of my daughter. I hope you will return to us for this momentous event.

But you must be warned: The deserts are dangerous, and the fire clans of the east are encroaching on our trade routes. Should you choose to come home, as I hope you do, you must not travel alone. If you have received this, you will have met my old friend Joe Smith of the Red Dragon Inn. I have sent four small kegs of Sairundani Stormbrew and two bottles of Nimbusad, a rare wine bottled at the edge of the world. They would catch a fair price anywhere, and if I know Joe he will offer more than their value. Take his coin and hire an escort. The Red Dragon Inn's reputation has reached even here, I am sure you will find several able bodied warriors who will assist you on your journey.

One worry you no longer need dwell upon is being bound by the Hurakan tradition to a son of Typhoon. Sabil has had his two years to find his daughter, and she has not returned. Kaida yn Jamil will marry Abdar ai Typhoon. She is absolutely enamored with her husband-to-be, and even Sabil has found some joy in celebrating their happy union.

Should you choose to stay in the wetlands, your family understands. If that is the case, spend the coin wisely.

May your heart be as strong and your blades as swift as the wind,
~ Hayder ai Hurakan

When Shadya is finished reading, Joe hands her a piece of parchment with some legalese and Joe's signature at the bottom. "A bill of lading. The bank down the way will cash it for you. You see the prices here, here, and here." He points out a few sums on the bill.

[sblock=The Bill of Lading: ]Nimbusad wine, x2: 1250 crowns ea., 250 dragons tot.
Stormbrew, sm. keg, x4: 125 crowns ea., 50 dragons tot.

Agg. tot.: 300 dragons

~Joe Smith

[sblock=Shadya: ]It occurs to Shadya that there is no way Joe could afford to run the Red Dragon Inn for free at these prices. Joe must owe her father some huge favor. But the usually taciturn bartender is unusually friendly towards the girl from the desert and seems happy to finally pay off his debt.[/sblock][/sblock]

Joe looks at Shadya and asks, "That satisfactory?"

Sojourn in Sairundan - an Adventure

OOC: As Solange has already mentioned, this is an adventure hook. I'm currently torn between taking L1's and the higher level characters. On the one hand, Shadya is a L1 character and will definitely be going on this adventure, so her companions should be of similar level. On the other, a journey through the desert is no small feat, and Lasair, being from the desert (albeit a different one) would be appropriate for a desert adventure.

Right now I'm inclined to take several L1's and some higher levels. I'd prefer 5 PCs, but I'm willing to take more if a group of PCs wishes to stay together. The wilderness will be primarily combat, and the Hurakan city will be primarily political/RP, so there should be plenty of action for everybody.

One thing I do request is a high posting rate. If you can't post at least 4 times a week (barring inevitable RL interruptions), please do not apply. I reserve the right to abandon in the desert any PCs who fall into my hands as an NPC without prior warning. :]

Also, if your character does not get in on this adventure, I have another coming up very soon. It will be one of Rystil's 6 co-current adventures. It will take place in a forest and be primarily combat oriented.

OOC: 250 dragons is 250 gold or 250 platinum?

Shadya nods, blinking a little bit at the amount. "Thank you Joe. My father is indeed honored to have a friend such as you. How do I go about hiring help?"

"Just ask around," replies the bartender.

Shadya nods to Joe and smiles, "Thank you."

She turns to the rest of the bar. "It appears I need to travel back to Sairundan, and I would wish some companions, as the journey is long, and not without peril. The Sands of Sairundan are much different than the lands here, so it may be a chance to see visit an exotic new place. I have some coin in which I can spare for travel and pay, and knowing father, he will be very grateful to see me home safe again."

"They lie far to the south-west, do they not?" says Taelythenihel. "I have never passed that way. Indeed, I have never been further from my... home than I am at this... moment. I would not be averse... to accompanying... you.... I... have...some... small skill with... the arcane arts." She seems a little distracted as she talks. "Ossa," she says, "would you go to my room upstairs - room 23 - and gather my belongings, in case we... leave?"
Ossa stands without making a sound, and somehow, in doing so, her hood slips backwards from her head. For a moment, it is visible, a burned, scarred ruin, then the hood is replaced. Taelythenihel breathes hard. "Do not be ashamed, Ossa," she says. The servant makes no sign, but walks to the stairs, disappearing up them. "Now you see why she values her privacy," says the elf when she has gone. "Shadya, would our presence be of use to you?"

OOC - if anyone looks closely, and they want to cause me trouble :p , they can make a DC 16 Will save to recognise "Ossa" as a figment.

Lasair, being from the desert (albeit a different one) would be appropriate for a desert adventure.

(OOC: Plus she's also unlikely to be able to go on one of Rystil's concurrent adventures ;) Lasair likes RP stuff. I can post at least 4 times a week easily, except for two weeks coming up when I'll be in Japan (I'll still try to post there, but who knows?))

"Sairundan...yes, I imagine that it is much different than the lands here. Exotic new lands indeed!" she gives a friendly smile and laughs good-naturedly, "Your family needs you? If so, I will be glad to help. I need no recompense, but I will accept any gift I am given as a sign of the giver's vhal."

"Hmmm..." Kurgahz rumbles deeply as he stands and stretches his muscled arms high over his head, "I would welcome such a journey and the chance to do ssomething besides ssitting around here. If ya could use a person to heal woundss along the way, I'd like to come along."

Cocking his head to the side as 'Ossa' walks by to go upstairs, Kurgahz listens carefully and is confused for a second by what he doesn't hear...Will save (1d20+5=18) His eyes narrow as they turn and lock with Taelythenihel's eyes just long enough to let her understand that he KNOWS, but keeping his mouth shut enough to let her know that he won't SAY anything about what he knows... yet. He thinks to himself, 'It's always good to have a little possible leverage...'
