City of the Spider Queen

Greetings!

Hmmm...I have Queen of the Demonweb. I love that campaign module! I look forward to the City of the Spider Queen! It should rock!

But you know what? I also have the boxed set Menzoberranzan, and I just have to say that it's cool and all, but to be honest--

Queen of the Demonweb is still superior. Queen just had that wicked rough edge to it, that despite Menzo's high production values and gloss, it just seems too polished, and well, shallow, you know? It's hard for me to quite define what is really "wrong" with Menzoberranzan. I suppose one thing is that (or two) that it doesn't have that sense of wickedness and roughness to it. I still look at them, and it's strange, because Menzo seems to collect dust on my shelf, but I still flip through Queen just to relive the in some bizarre way, the ancient glee I got when I ran my first groups of players through those dark caverns those long years ago...Queen still whispers and gibbers inspiration to me for dark adventures in the ancient deeps of the world...:) Menzo just...sits there.:)

Semper Fidelis,

Greetings!

I have both the Queen (GDQ series) and Menzo (or had, actually, since they got stolen from my basement a month ago, luckily I still got the scan I made) and you're right. I have seen nothing since its release that could even touch the heels of the Queen. It is simply the best module ever written, period. I am only hoping City will be close to the feel of the Queen.

Uhm a gateway into the Abyss. Fighting the Demon Prince Orcus, more than five dragons of pretty HIGH CR ratings, Phase the Minataur King, Zelkor the Wight Soul sucking wizard, and of course our beloved Dungie the toliet monster! :) And that's working from the bottom up. 15 levels of sheer hell and fun. Believe me RA isn't for the weak of heart or mind.

oh after reading this it may not replace the GDQ series but it could give the Greyhawk Ruins or Undermounatin a run for their money..definately something to look at for those pesky dungeon crawling pc's.

RA

Gezz, you can't tell me RA is fun! It is the most BORING piece of crap ever conceived. Its nothing interesting and pretty bland. We have been playing it to about 3 months now(ra1) and sorry, i can't take it anymore.

Geez, you are only there for 1 reason to get rich and be famous, but the way the dungeon is made i don't know why anybody would even bother playing it after dying so many times.

No to mention, our DM HEAVILY modifies it and makes it even harder, i think that's what he does, or the module is wrong because some or most of the stuff in there is a lot more powerfull than the Monster Manual stuff, but the same CR.

I am playing a Fighter/Monte Ranger/Tribal Protector/Duelist Air Genasi. We all agreed on just munchikinizing but this is ridiculous when i constantly have ac 30(fighting defensively, bla bla) and everything still hits me on like a 16!!! We have 7 PC'S playing!!!

Don't get me wrong, it cool in the beginning. But geez, i can create this dungeon on the fly. Just create a room, pick a page on the monster manual and voila, RA

Sorry for my rant, but thats the way i feel about RA. I found Undermountain much scarier and enjoyable. I just hope Necropolis by S&S isn't the same load of bull that RA was. I can't actually wait for it.

Again, sorry. It maybe wasn't the module but the DM that soured my experience, but RA is more for DM enjoyment than player enjoyment.

Well you could ask Psion and his crew what he thinks about. He's run a few adventures in there. He likes and it seems his players do too. The necromancer's BB also seems to get at least 50 hits on their RA section. I don't know that for a fact but just about every time I visit there's probably like 1-2 new posts there the next day, and PLENTY of active threads there as well.
