Pathfinder 1E Clark Peterson supporting Pathfinder?

I'm a little disappointed to see Mr. Peterson tossing out unnecessary edition-war jabs ("Pathfinder is the game that has the soul of what D&D was coupled with proper changes for the modern game.") but I'm not really all that disappointed that he's supporting Pathfinder. More 3pp for Pathfinder, and no skin off my back since I've never purchased Necromancer stuff anyway.

Hopefully he's finished off the Sword of Air and has reaquired the rights to publish Tengel Manor.

outside of that I can't see what unique elements he'd be bringing to Pathfinder that isn't already filled out by numerous other third party members years after their official partnership (2007?) started.

Remember that feeling next time someone complains about the way WotC talked about 3E during the run up to 4E release.

Things I may see as simply being high praise for Pathfinder, you see as slights to 4E, even though Clark does not even mention 4E. Wizards specifically called out 3E. So the point is NOT to say that WotC meant to attack 3E, but the people who were bugged by what they said then are *less* wrong than you are now.

Just saying.

Oh, and awesome news!!! :)

The question is more, what exactly does Clark intend to do? Bill Peterson and Frog God Games are already basically doing Necromancer's thing already with old school adventures and a Tome of Horrors Complete for Pathfinder. What's left for Clark, exactly?

This was my impression too. Since Frog God is pretty much picking up where Necro left off, I kind was thinking that Clark either didn't have time/resources to continue on or bailed on the market because of the whole GSL thing.

Nevertheless, I'm eager to see what Clark will do.

How is that a jab? He said, basically, he liked 3e, and Pathfinder is a lot like 3e. Whoop de doo.

That's not what he said.

He said "Pathfinder is the game that has the soul of what D&D was". The use of the definite article (bolded for emphasis) means that he believes other games (and, really, the only one worth noting in this context is 4e) do not have the soul of what D&D was, or that other games do not include "proper changes for the modern game."

It's just unfortunate that he chose to word it this way when he could have easily said "Pathfinder has the soul of what D&D was, coupled with proper changes for a modern game," which is clear praise for Pathfinder without the equally clear implication that Pathfinder is the only game deserving of said praise.

As always, a good rule of thumb is to imagine the situation reversed; if Mr. Peterson had instead decided to publicly abandon Pathfinder in favor of 4e products, and had said "D&D 4th Edition is the game that has the soul of what D&D was coupled with proper changes for the modern game," would you not see it as a jab? I wager that you most certainly would.

Person supports Pathfinder, declares it's the true soul of D&D. I don't even notice it anymore. Seems to happen every time anyone announces support for Pathfinder.
