Pathfinder 1E Clark Peterson supporting Pathfinder?

Nowadays, one can hardly sneeze without some 4e fans having their sensibilities hurt...

Admin here. Folks, this is a great example of trying to bait other people into an edition-based flame war. Don't do this when you're posting, and please don't respond to this post.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions if this isn't clear. ~ Piratecat

Interesting, but I do note that Clark didn't come out and say "I AM BACK! FEAR ME!" or something equally assertive.

What I took from that post was more a "we'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when ... but when we meet again it'll be a Pathfinder thing."

So I will reserve my enthusiasm for the return of mr. Peterson for the day when his project is revealed. But judging from previous efforts, it will be cool!

Well give the guy some credit, he did create the original Tome of Horrors when there was no Tome of Horrors before that. Just because Frog God Games is doing the PF version, doesn't mean that Clark has to rely on legacy anything. I expect him to create something completely new, not relying on what he created before. There's more to game supplement creation than reinventions of what was already done.

As far as his 'game soul' thing, he was creating under 3x, so that's the game he's familiar and what propelled his work to be created. Pathfinder is designed so that 3pp's can continue to be supported by the system and its designers.

4e is designed for 3pp's not to do anything with it, due to GSL and lack of 4e support of 3pps. By this definition it is almost 'soulless' in comparison at least to a 3pp (not inferring it has no soul for a game, but has no soul for a game designer.)

Just to be clear, us "fired" folk don't have our sensibilities hurt. We are quite beyond happy. :)

All the news is good news. What could we possibly be hurting over?

This is great news for Pathfinder fans.

Person supports Pathfinder, declares it's the true soul of D&D. I don't even notice it anymore. Seems to happen every time anyone announces support for Pathfinder.

Clark Peterson isn't your typical 3PP changing gears, however. Clark was pretty much the 4e standard bearer of the 3PPs. Prior to that, Necromancer's stuff was some of (and still is) the mostly well-regarded 3rd-party material produced for 3e.

Given the degree to which Mr. Peterson felt the GSL burned 3PPs, I think he's taken a pretty diplomatic stance when speaking about Pathfinder or 4e, both historically as well as now.

Was their a 4e slight in his comments? Probably. However, it's a smaller slight than when a 3PP switches gears to Pathfinder and people show up and start throwing out posts attempting to marginalize those people's opinions. That seems to happen every time someone announces support for Pathfinder -- and I do notice.

From what I can tell, both Pathfinder and 4e are doing well. WotC's business plan for 4e does not include, in any significant way, healthy 3PP support. A 3PP shifting support to a company whose business plan does include active 3PP support is hardly surprising, nor is it a betrayal of 4e fandom.
