Class Ability power grouping, for "extra X per day" feats

Well, the title might not explain what Im meaning too well, but here goes my idea. Notice how some class abilities (Smite Evil, Rage, Wildshape, etc.) Have feats that allow extra uses per day, while many other similiar special abilities DONT, merely becuse the the classes that gain them arent from core books and it didnt occur to the designers to add such feats, even though it would make perfect sense to have them?

Well, Im thinking that maybe special class abilities should be grouped into power levels, maybe lesser, major, and greater, or something smiliar, so that there can be unified feats for gaining extra uses of these powers. Say, Smite Evil and Rage are Major abilites, and the feat Extra Major Ability gives you 2 extra uses per day (the way these 2 feats work now) Something like maybe the War Minds (psionic prestige class) Chain of Overwhelming Force that gives them an extra 10d6 damage on a damage roll once per day would be a Greater ability and the feat Extra Greater Ability would give them one more use per day, maybe with a limit on how many times it can be taken.

All it would take is an extra footnote in class abilities, beside the supernatural,, spel like, or extraordinary designation.

Smite Evil, Major Supernatural sound ok?

Any opinions? Sound like a good idea?

it looks like a good idea. although niether i nor anyone i play with ever take the 'extra' feats.

Well, I've seen extra turning (on a RSOP :p ). But he's milked it for all it's worth.

I've also seen extra Rage, taken by a Rogue/Barbarian. He's gotten a lot of use out of it. It allows him to last longer and hit harder. Combined with Spring attack, flanking, SA, he likes the extra punch raging gives him

I am always a fan of stream-lining the system...it looks good to me. One question: How will you decide whether something is a minor, major, or greater ability? Seems, at least from the ones you mentioned, that the decision is subjective. Is that the case?

I have no idea :) Its something Id like the designers to do, heheh.

So, just an uninteresting idea? I thought it might be something useful to expand upon, mself, but im terrible at such things.

(my, looking thru the threads, i seem to kill a lot of them.)

I liked it. So let's get cracking. ;)

First let's list all the per day abilities and then we'll see how to group them by power.

Rage (1 +1/4 Level)
Bardic Music (1/Level)
Turn Undead (3+ Cha)
Wild Shape (some wierd progression ;) )
Stuning Fist (monk 1/Level other: 1/4 Level)
Smite Evil (1 + 1/5 Level)

These are the core abilities I could come up with. Any others I've missed.

So if I have "Extra x Ability" and I have two abilities of power level x, I can use each of them more times per day (say 2 more, for the sake of argument), or do I have to choose?

Either way it adds a lot of freedom of choice- I'd say almost too much.
