Class balance changes in revised PHB?

Dark Jezter

First Post
I just read a FAQ about the revised D&D rulebooks at WOTC's site, and one thing in particular that caught my eye was this:

The Player’s Handbook is receiving revisions to character classes to make them more balanced, and there are revisions and additions to spell lists.

This already has me intrigued. Does anybody have any clue what these changes will be? Will the ranger class be getting a much-needed boost? Will wizards and clerics be nerfed so they aren't quite as overpowering at high levels? Will Harm have a saving throw?

If anybody has any information, I'd appreciate hearing about it. :)

I hope not.

I'm not sure there exists a huge imbalance. I think the differences are largely percieved. I think that if they muck with the classes all they will do is tick people off and nobody will be really happy.

Yeah, but if they don't muck with the classes, that will tick people off, and many people will be unhappy.

I don't envy the dude who makes decisions about this stuff . . .

If there aren't a lot of significant changes, then I doubt I'll bother with it. I'm not going to shell out money for something that is more or less what I already have. If they don't go whole hog and really push the envelope, they don't get my money.

Maybe the Sorcerer class will finally actually have more than one class skill... :D

Or at best, a few that use it's prime stat...

phb revisions

I would expect the sorcer to get its own spell list, the monk to undergo a SERIOUS revision, the bard to gain more feats and skill points, and the really broken spells like harm to get adjusted (saves, damage dice vs. instant kills etc.) what I hope happens is that they give everyone a few more feats, and the classes with no special abilities after 1st level to get SOMTHING. ie: meta magic feats for clerics and sorcers, Ranger to gain some abilitiy's other then favored enemy, like a tracking bonus every 3 levels etc. :D

I'm hoping for some minor changes (sorcerer skill list, mabye a few more skill points for rangers and bards and a OA style monk with feat choices rather than locked abilities). Stuff like new ways to deal with Save or Die spells should be covered in the DMG as a variant option, IMHO...

Well, there will be major changes, else no point for the book. It will please some, anger others, no different then the orginal PHB.

Yeah...

Even giving the Sorcerer a progressively cooler hair style across the levels would be an improvement...

When you look at a class list and see blank entries across 19 of the levels, it can make you feel like you'll get bored playing that thing.

The Sorcerer and the Ranger should have had more tricks in their level list. And you can give out tricks without increasing powerful level if you design them right.
