Class combos to make a pirate help

Don't forget a level in ranger so that you can take Favored Enemy (Ninja). ;)
Right now I am playing a ninja. It would be dishonorable to hunt honored friend ninja. To use a pirate my ninja would have to die, and that would suck.

A barbarian/rogue makes a great "bloodthirsty" pirate, quick and merciless. Maybe a Bbn 2/Rog x.

A ranger/rogue has potential as a "bucaneer" pirate, optimized for light armor, good skill synergy and a parrot for an animal companion ;) Maybe a Rgr 2/Rog x or Rgr 4/Rog x, a Rgr 6 is tempting but you don't want to fall too far behind on your sneak attack damage. The only problem I see is that the Rgr has such a heavy focus on forests, maybe you could ask your DM about trading out Track for another feat like Imporved Init, Combat Reflexes, Agile, Athletic or Deft Hands. I don't know what I'd do with Wild Empathy though.

A fighter/rogue might work out as a "marauder" pirate, a stone-cold killer who can go the distance in a fight. A Ftr 4/Rog x can take Weapon Focus[shortsword] and Weapon Spec[shortsword] plus TWD and use his charactrer feats for TWF and ITWF so he hits harder than the Rgr/Rog and has more HP, the problem here is that the fighter is so reliant on heavy armor he might crumble at higher levels.

And lastly you could always consider a straight Bard for that good old "swashbuckler" feel, simply recast "Bardic Music" as "Witty Banter" and you're all set. You lack sneak attack but don't underestimate the power of good old Wpn Finesse + Improve Crit + Rapier. You may even consider going for the duelist Prc (Brd8/Duelist x) if that strikes your fancy.

Hope that helps.

Bards have that whole 'spellcasting' thing, though certainly sailors are a supersititous bunch...and you could probably pass it off as 'island tricks'. :)

Ranger might be worth it just for the animal companion...parrot, monkey, crocodile....;)

I was trying to avoid the whole Bard aspect. I am not going for the "swashbuckler" feel for the dwarf. I guess the best way you can describe him he is kinda...psycotic. but not evil. I mean his favored weapon is his hand hook from Dragon #318 when combined with the Dirty Fighting feat from Sword and Fist he has the potential for some damage. And then tack the shocking magic ability and Improved Crit on that... he is also chaotic nuetral if that helps.
I could go fighter/rogue for the feats, BAB, and hit dice but take a hit on the skill points and will have to make up for it with a high Int.
If I go the ranger/rogue route he gets good BAB, skill points, and cool abilities but takes a hit on feats and hit dice. plus those cool abilities are kinda useless if your multiclassing.
All in all I plan on splitting the levels down the middle with no PrC (unless you can recomend a cool one ;) )

Though I hate it for dwarves, bbn2/rogX with Extra Rage sounds right. Power Attack, Cleave and you'll never need anything else to be a fighting machine. Con 20 is a good idea though.

Age of Mortals has a Mariner class that has a bard/rogue feel, you could use that otherwise a balance of bard and rogue would make a pretty good pirate.

I love dragons, especially with catsup

there is a prestige class in songs & silence called the dread pirate
with the dread being kish, this class is ment for sea sailing rogues, pitates in short
with all the kish you can expect a pirate to have, such as using a cutlass and swinging from ship to ship during combat

Sounds cool. I'd go with Fighter/Rogue, and skip the Dirty Fighting feat and consider Arterial Strike or Hamstring from the Complete Warrior instead.

There's a decent pirate class in Swashbuckling Adventures.

It's primarily interesting because the class consists almost entirely of choosing between boosts to skill points at various levels and picking up 'pirate tricks.'

Which include everything from prowress versus booze to looting proficiency to unusual movement modes involving rope.
