Classic Dungeons: all of them to exist in the new edition

Egad -- Night Below is one hell of a monstrosity to convert. Thing was a bloody boxed set in and of itself! Somehow I doubt that one'll get done, just due to the sheer massiveness of it.
Hey, if Monte can do RttToEE... ;)

Which only makes sense because, so far, the designers are taking such great pains to make sure 4E remains true to its roots.

Where's that eye-rolling emoticon when you need him?
??

It's not like Barrier Peaks has had a really big impact on the game since. If anything, we've had nearly three decades of D&D trying to pretend it never happened.

I'm torn about this news. On the one hand, it's good that the new edition has room for the 'classic' dungeons. On the other, I wouldn't want WotC to just reissue the same adventures once again - give us something new!

I'm also not particularly keen on Bill's commentary on S3. D&D is wide enough to encompass lots of wierd stuff. Sure, it's not for everyone, but it doesn't need to be. The again, the Barrier Peaks were mentioned in one of the D&D movies, so maybe they're tainted now?

Deleted, with good reason.

Of course, i'm prejudiced on this topic. Barrier Peaks was the first module I ever tried to run... and my players walked out on me after 30 minutes. *sob* And two years ago I tried to put an antipaladin riding a froghemoth mount into my game... and the PCs studiously avoided him.

I want my froghemoth!

I think the 4E re-imaginings of the classics would be mostly new. They would not be the same old adventures with 4E stat blocks. They will be complete overhauls, I suspect.

Much like the forthcoming Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro pay enough homage to the originals to play to the nostalgia, but in actuality they resemble the originals in only superficial ways. If I can get a 4E ToEE that is the 2009 Chevy Camaro of adventures, then one of my wildest D&D wishes will come true.

(And if I get promoted in two years, my wife has said I can get a real 2009 Chevy Camaro, too! )
