Classic warriors: Warlords or Fighters?

The_Fan

First Post
Due to the relative low power of the class throughout the history of the game, there are relatively few iconic fighters in D&D. The ranks of the epic, godlike characters are almost entirely occupied by wizards, with only a few clerics.

With the new edition, fighters are finally getting the respect they deserve...but what about warlords? Might it make sense for some of them to now be warlords instead of fighters?

So what say you: Warlord or fighter?

Robilar
Warduke
Yolande
Erac's Cousin
Obmi
Bruenor Battlehammer
Catti-Brie
Lord of Blades

Any others?

Odysseus
Sun-Tzu (tricky, he was a strategist and not a 2nd lieutenant but it's the brain that counts)
Faramir
Boudicca

Well, I know who the cartoon character, robot, and the pair of 2-dimensional companions of angst are, but I haven't the faintest idea who the other four are. So, sure.

And really, is that the list?

Pretty much. That's the best list of fighters I could find (at least those who are still alive) and many of them are multiclassed.

But which ones are which?

Robilar and Obmi are definitely Warlords, Bruenor is a possibility, as are the Lord of Blades and Hong's entire list.

I'd add Maximus (Gladiator) as the best recent example of a warlord in action

Did you miss the OP's point? This is not a list of iconic warlord characters. This is a list of iconic fighters from previous editions, and the OP is asking if any would be better described as warlords.

I'm not really familiar with most of these, but Bruenor is definitely a Warlord. Catti-Brie is probably closer to a Ranger IMO.

I would sway Bruenor and the Lord of Blades are multi-classed fighter/warlords. Catti-Brie is just a fighter. I don't know who those other people are.
