Classic warriors: Warlords or Fighters?

Did you miss the OP's point? This is not a list of iconic warlord characters. This is a list of iconic fighters from previous editions, and the OP is asking if any would be better described as warlords.

The OP says "Any others?" Does that count?

I didn't miss his point at all. I realize those are all supposed to be fighters, I just didn't know who half of them were.
And because I don't have any investment in them at all, as far as I'm concerned, they can be either.

Tho'... are they really 'iconic'? That strikes me as another term thats just tossed about without any meaning, like 'epic' and 'cinematic'.

Robilar - Fighter
Warduke - Fighter
Yolande - Maybe Warlord
Erac's Cousin - Fighter
Obmi - Fighter
Bruenor Battlehammer - Multiclass, primarily Fighter
Catti-Brie - Fighter
Lord of Blades - Fighter

They're some of the most well known D&D characters from novels and settings which are known to have multiple levels of the "Fighter" class. That's about as iconic "Fighter" as you can get.

On the other hand of course, specific characters from D&D campaign settings and books (esp fighter types) can be somewhat obscure, so it's not that much of a suprise that you don't recognize/care about them.

I have no idea. I think I don't know any of the names.
Except "Lord of Blades". I think he might be a good Warlord, considering that he is leader of the/some Warforged. His personal fighting prowess is probably not as important as his ability to lead his allies into combat or war.

That strikes me as another term thats just tossed about without any meaning, like 'epic' and 'cinematic'.
or 'videogamey', 'anime'... ;)

OP? Point? ;)

There are bunches of "classic warriors" from greek mythology, arthurian adventures, historical sources...the great majority of which only came close to fighter, if they came close to any class at all. Now, we have two classes for all of them.

Its much harder to find true "iconics" (as in someone a non-gamer has heard of) for all those other classes. Not imposible. But harder.

Achiles (fighter)
Hector (fighter/warlord)
Hercules (fighter)
Odysseus (warlord)
Ajax (fighter)

the various knights of the round table (fighters, though some are probably paladins)

Tarzan (ranger/monk/druid?)
Korak (ranger)

Gimli (fighter)
Legolas (ranger?)
Eoden (warlord/fighter)
Hurin Thalion (fighter?)
Turin Turambar (fighter)
Boromir (fighter)
Gil-Galad (figther/warlord)
Fingolfin (fighter)

I'd just like to say I suspect Odysseus is a Rogue//Warlord multiclass, considering the amount of lying, tricking and deceiving he does. In fact in the 2nd edition books Odysseus was actually listed (If my memory is correct) under the sample historical/literary rogues. I think Agamemnon would be a better straight classed Warlord.
