The exploit is basically gone now: You can't do a whirlwind + cleave anymore, so even if you DO attack a mook, and cleave into the boss, you're not getting any more attacks than usual against the actual target you're aiming for, the boss. The mook simply happens to be an obstacle that gets killed as collateral damage. It's also possible that the fighter kills the mook, misses his cleave, and really only killed an irrelevant minion, or, perhaps, the wimpy mook might actually have a higher AC than the boss, and an attack that misses the mook would have actually hit the boss had he aimed directly. It's not really an exploit at all, and is certainly not to the same level as the 1E "Heroic Fray" rules.
