@ Frank: Cleric can only be imbalanced if a DM allows it to be. I don't let players play certain powerful classes unless they are going to be a specific party-role that suits the class. You want to be the cleric and have access to Divine Meta-magic shenanigans? You get to be the band-aid until the group has the wealth that your healing is not a dependency. You don't band-aid? We have a problem, and you need to change your character/role/play-style, or you need to find another campaign.
