Cleric Liches?

Gellion

First Post
How come we never see a cleric that is a lich, in all of the books and supplements, and modules ive seen not one has a clerical lich, does anybody know why, they all seem to be Wizards. I heard that unless the deity has undeath as a domain, then the cleric will probably not become a lich.

Good question....

IMO any cleric of evil should be able to be a lich.... I can only think that if they have been true to their faith (i.e. whatever their evil agendas) and in good standing with their god... it would benefit both to become a lich... More power to the priest... more longevity to wreak havoc or spread the ideals of the god they worship.

Well, one reason is fairly simple. Becoming a lich requires the Craft Wonderous Item feat (for making a phylactery). Clericsand sorcerers can do this, but wizards get bonus feats specificially for the purpose of taking metamagic and item creation feats. So, a wizard is more likely to have the prerequisite.

I did it once with a cleric that followed a god of death/destruction. Worked out okay. But now that you point it out...It really is not accepted to happen...hmmm.

If you were a devoted servant of an omnipotent god, would you rather spend eternity puttering around in some dank dungeon waiting for the next band of adventurers to come steal your stuff, or would you rather spend eternity hanging out on the outer planes, feasting on abrosia and surrounded by comely virgins? I think I know which I would pick.

I think you are wrong there..... Why does a lich have to putter around in some dungeon? A priest/liche would be working for his patron to further the causes of their beliefs.... be it.... recruiting as many follwers (with a liche that can last for hundreds of years) Think of all the mortal power from souls the liche priest can sacrifice over the time of hundreds of years...

instead of a god having a high priest that may live a few years and then have to find another.. and another... he can have a devoted servant that can remain in the world for up to 1000's of years.... all the more reason to want a liche priest.... and then again..... after many hundreds of years of faithful service the liche may even be given some divine spark to become a demi god in the service of his master....

Or would you rather spend eternity as an immortal figure who walks the earth doing the works of manifest power?

The power for which you were born. The power for which you were chosen.

The power that you will wield over all those inferior beings that must respect and bow before the bone fist in its glove of regency!!!

oh, sorry, got carried away there.

carry on.

John
p.s. my players can of course ignore that, it has nothing to do whatsoever with that major BBEG in my game.

p.p.s. no really, nothing at all.

Or if you were one of thse clerics that didnt worship a god, but just what you beleive in, then i could also understand one wanting to become a lich.
