I would allow it for RP reasons with a good background. I would not allow it if I thought it was just a power gaming effort.

Best example I could think of would be a Husband and Wife god and goddess that had different portfolios and having a character wanting to worship them both. Despite the rules, I would allow it.

Clerics in D&D serve a single diety (or alignment) because that's the way the class functions. Monotheism has nothing to do with it...
