If I had the search function I'd look it up for you, but the gist of it is this:Ogrork the Mighty said:Could you provide a link or share the gist of it with us?
* My paladin wanted to take Leadership, but our party is large and I didn't want an extra body to take up space in tight quarters, or take time away from other players as far as roleplaying, etc.
* My DM and I worked out a way for me to have a cohort. I had just received a holy sword in the previous session which had been (at that point) undefined. We decided that the sword would allow me to Channel (as per the Channeling rules outlined in the BoED) a Trumpet Archon (statted out into a 20-level class using the guidelines in MotW).
* The Trumpet Archon is my paladin's cohort, but is never seen. His power is embodied in the sword. While wielding it, he is treated as Channeling the archon. As my paladin, and thus his cohort, gains levels, his access to that power increases (i.e. the archon gains additional levels in the "trumpet archon monstrous class" written up using the MotW guidelines.)
In play it's turned out really well so far.

Thank you for the rules cites, boolean.boolean said:A Trumpet Archon has DR 10/Good, so that's supernatural.
As far as energy resistances are concerned, the Monster Manual lists resistance to energy as Ex on p. 314.

Congrats on level 11.Shadeus said:The other one that was mentioned but it worth highlighting is heroes' feast. I never really looked at this spell until I got a level 11 cleric myself (just last session actually).

Regarding Heroes Feast it is absolutely a great spell. We'll have to see what the cleric does, though. I don't want to steal his thunder, which is the main reason I started this thread asking for melee buff spells my paladin could use on himself. I'm trying to think of the PC's access to spells as "paladin +" rather than "cleric" spells, simply because I don't want to take over the cleric's role.
I think my DM would be all right with me "powering up" Retribution with a Rod of Quickening, if I had the money to buy one. I currently don't, though it would absolutely be a wonderful item for me to have. I'll have to keep it in mind as the next few adventures unfold.Darmanicus said:If your DM will allow it and the cash allows try getting a rod of quickening incorporated into your weapon. If you can somehow get access to True Strike 3/day that could seriously help out.
Regarding the True Strike there is one simple way for him to access the spell: by picking up a Lesser Ring of Spell Storing and buying the party wizard a scroll (he may already have True Strike in his spellbook, I'm not sure.) That too requires money, though.

Several folks have brought up Recitation, and it's starting to look better and better. I've been prepping Fire Shield, but while that spell works wonderfully against mindless foes, the intelligent ones quickly turn their focus towards less painful-to-attack party members, which is in a way detrimental to my goal of shielding the party from melee attacks. I think that listening to what you guys are saying, I may start prepping one Fire Shield and a Recitation as well. That'd allow me to start a combat against mindless foes with Quickened Divine Favor + Fire Shield but open with Q Divine Favor + Recitation against intelligent ones.
Sadly, I'm the only follower of Pelor in our party, but that's still +3 to hit for me, (netting me a total of +6 to hit for the battle) and +2 for everyone else.
