Clerics and their Holy Symbols

I always carry as much Holly and Mistletoe I can carry in my pack...
Always have extra holy symbols in the handy haversack as well! :D

Losing ones holy symbol spells doom for the cleric.

At 1gp per Holy Symbol what self respecting cleric doesn't have a few stashed away after 1st level. I always follow the scout motto "Be Prepared" and there is no reason to think that any self respecting adventurer wouldn't. Sure I might be slowed down for an encounter if the bad guys somehow manage to get it away from me, but that is a one combat problem only. If my DM decieded to trash my casting for longer than that there better be a very good reason, and a better excuse than having all of my Holy Symbols disapear.

"Brother Michael, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you for your badge and your holy symbol until this is cleared up."
Brother Michael slams them down on the High Priest's desk.
"... and the other one."
Brother Michael sighs, hikes up his cassock, and pulls his holdout symbol from its ankle holster...

Adamantium is the german word for adamantine, and Schnee is the german word for snow. So I guess, that schnee is german and just used to use the german terminus.

Maybe Hyp knows that and maybe Hyp knows that he would be called in German "Überschlumpf"...

Kind regards

Skill and the tools of a woodworker should be sufficient to make a holy symbol of wood. Nowhere in the PHB does it actually state that a holy symbol needs to be blessed (not that I can see) probably why the wooden ones are so cheap. Now obviously you would need metal crafting to make one of metal.

as to the DC required that should be up to the DM to figure out the artistic skills needed to craft the holy symbol.

I am sure now that I am posting this some people will think of making holy symbols with a bar of soap....

at least christian priests have it easy. slap 2 pieces of straight wood together, point it at a vampire and say 'back fiend!'

now a priestess of sehanan moonbow or a priest of one of the odder dieties would be in dire straights if their holy symbol was broken or destroyed by misadvendure. i mean, it takes a while to carve a moon with a bow around it.

Hehe. I can see that, but it wasn't intentional - I just read a lot of Marvel comics growing up and always confuse the two. :)

...And while we're at it...

Metal Holy Symbol? See above.
Wooden Holy Symbol? Turn/Warp Wood.
Stone Holy Symbol? Shatter.

In case it still needs to be said, all Clerics and Paladins should have several Holy Symbols, of different materials, handy. One worn about the neck, attached to the clothes/armor, etc., another in a pocket or pouch, another in the backpack, and yet another in the mount's saddlebags... It is too easy for an attacker determined to relieve you of spells to remove the use of your divine focus, if they come prepared.

[Edit:] And I aint even mentioned Telekinesis, yet! :p
