What clever tactics or ideas have your players come up with to address a challenge?
My new group came up with some great ideas this past session. They were in a city that was assaulted from within; an ancient tower with the magical equivalent of the Borg was opened, and the guys inside began attacking and assimilating; most of the guard were wiped out before the PCs got there, and the Borg were rounding up citizens.
So they started a guerrilla war; they set up their own ambushes and lured in small squads who were rounding people up. When they had picked off enough that the Borg wised up and retreated to their tower, the PCs had to decide how to assault the tower.
They constructed two things:
1) A bomb cart. They filled a cart with alchemical substances, oil and hay, lit it on fire and sent it careening into the tower's doors where it blew up and laid down a fog of smoke. Then, they drove in
2) A war chariot. This was a wagon that had been turned over, and given very Large wheels, so they had moving roof they could crouch under and avoid archer fire. The wagon had removable sides, so they pushed it in, dropped the sides and surged out from underneath it to engage the ground forces.
I'm rather proud of their ingenuity.
