Cloaks are a Neck Item?

Just in the Lord of the Rings, or in all of fantasy?

Is that a trick question?

Personally, I think that they should have a single magic item slot so that only your most powerful magic item functions. Think how easily that would be to balance.

That's so non-videogamey.

Name three examples.

Surely you're familiar with previous editions of D&D and how you were able to wear (oh, I'm sorry, I mean "use") both a cloak and an amulet the same time.

As far as other games, pretty much any game based on D&D (DDO, NWN, etc), as well as World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Everquest, there's several right there, and that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure you can find many others if you care to look.

Of course you can find plenty of examples in CRPGs and previous versions of D&D. But if you mean genre emulation (which is what I presumed you meant), then you want to go to the source, right? Otherwise you just end up back in the situation where D&D is emulating nothing but itself, if possibly a few times removed. Even if you simply mean doing what other popular games do, then I'll note that not all games have tons of items. Guild Wars, for example, limits you to 5 worn items at a time, and item enchantments are very limited in scope compared to actual character abilities.

So... just for the record and all... You're complaining that 4e isn't video gamey enough?

I don't want to break in here but... I thought I would mention my house rule for 4e dealing with magic item slots.

I am going to have the standard slots (Head, Body, hands, back, waist, legs, feet and 2 implements) and then a catch-all for jewelry you will be able to wear 4 pieces no matter where they are. (bracers, eyes, amulet, ring, necklace etc.) You could wear 4 rings. I may increase it to 5 at 11th and 6 at 21st. I'll have to wait to see the text for the exact implementation.

I am also considering getting rid of the enhancement bonuses for the "big three" altogether anyway so it wont matter if I change the slots around too much.

From the other thread http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=221428
the pdf has a cloak in the magic items with "Body Slot: Neck." Is this a typo, or will players be unable to wear a cloak and an amulet in 4e? If so, that would be the most absurd and ridiculous rule I've heard so far about 4e. Please tell me it's not true.

Of course its true and no self respecting metrosexual would be caught dead (or adventuring) double accessorizing like that :p
