Ot of interest, if the other people participating still want to have the discussion, can threads closed at the behest of the thread starter be restarted by someone else?

That's a good question.

Hm. Probably usually not; people don't generally ask to have their threads closed without a good reason.
(For example: If they wanted to have it closed to prevent the thread degenerating into flames, it's probably not a very good idea to open a new thread.

So... It's best to ask a moderator first; we can tell you on a case by case basis.
