well.. the backup file is usually in the same folder as the file.

You could try checking c:\windows\temp

Is it not showing up in the file history when you click on File in the taskbar?

not really.

in any case, my temp folder is empty and it's not in the recently worked on documents list thingy. damn it all.

looks like i'll be here for another hour or so.

I'm using XP, so I have no clue where to look for any backed up file. I know I hit the save button on numerous occasions, but apparently it didn't save the file anywhere I can find.
Then search for th file. you named it, yes? if not then you should use the search function to look for all word docs, and sort by date.

The most obvious place I can think of is to click 'Start' - 'My recent documents'

the other option is to go to Start-->Find-->Files and Folders and do a search for the name of the file.
a bit of a complication when the title of the file you were working on was "New Microsoft Word Text Document". *sigh*

Like i said. Sort by date. Choose to view as details and click on the date until you have the most recent one on top.

And name your files. :)

could you perhaps be a bit more specific as to the sorting? XP is a bit confusing. *insert bambi eyes here*
