A town like Innsmouth from H.P. Lovecraft. Isolated, and loathed when mentioned, they made a pact with the Deep Ones long ago and now have to live with that terrible decision. Sahuagin would fit in nicely for Deep Ones...

One word.....Jusenkyo.

I mean, for the truly rat bastard DM, it's a great littole place to throw your characters for power ups (Honored Sir, you fall in spring of drowned Tarrasque!) or power downs (You fall in spring of drowned pig).

Okay, so Ranma is silly, but useful in places.

That would be a seaside 'Profane' area as far as I'm concerned. Places that are cursed under one's breath, prone to treachery, even from the weather or terrain... and filled with evil creatures...

The Parthanon. Potentially a place where the gods could manifest or avatarize. Plus.. its freaking huge! A place made of stone, but on a hill near the sky.

The Great Pyramids are great places of power, with just s light background change, they fit in to any adventure. And, as a bonus, mummies are fun.

A place like the Parthanon would have a powerful 'Creative' signature...
