If handguns were legal in Spain, there would be no terrorism by ETA. My girlfriend is European (from Madrid), and had this attitude until I let her hold a gun, explained how bullets and guns work and she is much more relaxed around them. Guns are inert and don't kill people. What scares me are countries where people like ETA members are allowed to walk free and kill at will, the citizens are not allowed to defend themselves, and the government is too scared to do anything. ETA assassins use 9mms, and are in Spain.

I live in France, but I'm Spanish. In fact, I'm from Madrid.
Are you saying that if handguns were legal it wouldn't be ETA?
I think that's plainly wrong. It would only do the ETA task easier. Now, to have a gun, they must get it in the black market, if they were legal they could buy it, or steal it for any gun carring people on the street.
The governement too scared? (I think this thread risk being closed by political, but since it's Spanish political, maybe Piratecat will have merci with me)
Man, the governement follows the law. Maybe we are all wrong, but after fifty years of dictature, most of us believe in democracy, civil rights, innocent until proved guilty and so on! The system isn't perfect, and guilty goes sometimes free, but at least no innocent are legally killed...
Well, sorry, I think I was a bit rude. But returning to the theme...
What would change in Spain if handguns were legal? Most ETA kills are done BY THE BACK or with a bomb. What would change if the victim had a handgun? He would be killed (and the terrorist will take his gun and add it to their arsenal).
