Wow...I had a dream once where I was a soldier in Vietnam or somewhere and I encountered wormy things in a river. That's bizarre that you'd come up with that. 
[CoC-D20] I would like some help with this adventure plot...

Its easy
I am a very sick, demented, and otherwise deranged individual with way too much time on my hands. The idea is partly inspired by the move called "The Faculty" which its self is a revision of the ideas behind "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or "The Puppet Masters".
The use of worms as the parasite or controlling agent is also easy. They are a gross enough type of creature, and invertibrates. A recent visit to http://www.somethingawful.com , where under the parodies of NBC's public service announcements, I saw a photoshopped image with the phrase "Worms In My Brain!".
With those as the inspiration, and a few days to think, it was not difficult to arrive at the core of this plot idea.
