[CoC] WotC Support?

So, if we're not going to get any support, should we just whip up some fan material? I know that the game's not OGL or anything, but there could at least be some potential for a website or 'zine or something....

Well I feel stupid, I just noticed this part of your post. Go to my website www.shapermc.com and check out my news section. I have recently aquired an artist so the production of my conversion/upgrade is a bit behind. If you are interested, I would be willing, and am doing more adventures. I plan on putting out about 4 remakes of adventures (with additions) and also about 2 -3 new ones. Now I know how tight Chaosium is with their rights and what not, but I have gotten permission. Take a look and let me know if your interested in helping in my next project.

I should be starting my next project in about 2 weeks and then finishing this one at the end of Feb, when I will release it. I am curently in post production of the adventure and waiting for art. Shaper's Realm Publishing currrently includes about 3 people (Me, a editor, and an artist) and all the stuff that we will do is going to be free (unless Chaosium wants to put us on their payroll) so if that sounds like fun to you I can always use the help.

Just let me know.

Based on what I've read around the Web, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Chaosium seems to have resigned itself to slowly reprinting CoC supplements until the end of time. Unfortunately, while they seem to care a lot about gaming, they don't have much of a head for business. The Fateful Lot open call seems to have dropped off the face of the earth, Pulp Cthulhu looks like it'll be a about year late if it's seen at all, and they have completely missed any momentum generated by CoC d20.

It's sad. Chaosium in the 80s, afaic, set the bar for what is expected of a quality gaming company. Now, all the talent (both creative and managerial) seems to have departed for greener pastures. :(

Frankly, I'd be happy to see then get bought by someone with a shred of business sense.

I think the only real hope for CoC d20 is for some d20 company to get a license from Chaosium.

They seem to be okay in licensing out stuff to other companies. They've done it a bunch of times with regular CoC. In some cases to companies that seem little more the fan productions.

The trouble is, most d20 companies are busy with their own stuff.

But what fan productions! Pagan Publishing and FFG!

Anyway, yah, it'd be nice to see some licensing for that line. Personally I'd like to see a variety of adventures, some for 1920's, some for modern, and some set in a dark medieval fantasy world.

I was thinking not of FFG or Pagan, but companies like Triad Entertainment and Theatre of the Mind. Companies you probably haven't heard of, but have put out Call of Cthulhu books.

Post? I made a post?

Checked out the site, looks pretty good. You need to fix your title in the frameset though, it just says "New Page 2" at the top of the bar. ;)

Anyhow I'd like to submit something, if I ever get the time. I've got a few old adventures I wouldn't mind converting (and updating/ rewriting...). That's if I don't spend all my time programming this semester, of course.

Yea I know, that is because it is a redirect from further into the site directory.

Well If you are not busy for what ever reason, just shoot me an email with your proposal and I'll see what we have comming up. shapermc@shapermc.com

My two bits is to just buy the Chaosium BRP (non-20) CoC adventures if you can find one at a good price. It's **very** easy to make a d20 CoC monster or NPC on the fly: If it can kill a PC in one round and is immune to most weapons, it's not powerful enough. (: Cultists, of course, are all first level Commoners. :D Sanity is a little trickier: Take either a small amount to make players nervous, or a lot to teach 'em a lesson. (;

The work in making a CoC adventure isn't the stats, it's the **information**. The plot, the backstory, the player handouts. None are system-specific, and all I'd rather have someone else do the work.

Too true. After you do a few conversions from BRP to d20 you can do them in your head if your reading the old adventures. Some are really cool, some I don't even know how the hell they got aproved to be published ;p But about the "The work in making a CoC adventure isn't the stats" thing, your right. The most time that I spent on my conversion was that I added few areas and changed some of the plot hook up (made it slightly more linear). Also Handouts I think need to look good or your just fooling yourself. I put in tips on how to "age" your handouts and made them look a bit aged even if you just print them. I also made it so that there was a bit more of a horror aspect to the mod. It is alot of fune, and after this I think that Shaper's Realm publishing will move on to our own release, but who knows. Maybe Byron will join us on our crusade.

Hmm? What were we talking about?

I'd like to get something done, time permitting. It seems like I have nothing but group projects eating up my time this semester. Anyhow I'm not much for just doing stat conversions, but I'd still like to rewrite some of my old stuff, or maybe do some short "Tale of Terror" type vignettes.

Another project I was considering was a Gaslight conversion. D20 mostly has modern info, and some 1920s prices/equipment, but nothing for 1890s. Chaosium isn't really supporting the line anymore either, near as I can tell. So a netbook could be what's called for. I didn't have much worked out, just some things like new occupations, equpiment and pricing notes, maybe some feat chains representing noble stations or membership in secret societies, that sort of thing. Plus whatever else other people can think of.
