Cohort question: Pixies and Psuedodragons

I have a 12th level character who is seeking a cohort. He asked what the ECL would be for either a pixie or a psuedodragon.

According to the DMG page 199:

A blink dog (CR 2, 4 HD, LA +2) is an ECL 6 cohort.
A pegasus (CR 3, 4 HD, LA +2) is an ECL 6 cohort.

How would you rate either a pixie or a psuedodragon as a cohort for ECL value?

According to what one person has told me, you simply add hit dice + Level Adjustment to get the total ECL for a cohort.

So a pixie without irresistable dance would be LA 4 + 6 character levels (since you trade out the first fey hit die for any hit dice from character levels) = 10th level cohort for a 12th level character.

A pixie with irresistable dance would be LA 6 + 4 character levels = 10th level cohort for a 12th level character.

A psuedodragon would be LA 4 + 2 HD + 4 character levels = 10th level cohort for a 12th level character.

Does that seem right?

That's how I did it when one of my players picked up the Leadership feat and gained a pixie cohort. At the time I used the +4 LA non Otto's Dance version and now, after some game time and character advancement, plan on giving the pixie that ability by "advancing" two levels in LA instead of regular classes (much like the Saint Template in BoED)

According to the 3.5 MM a Pseudodragon has 2 Hit Dice and a level
adjustment of +3 meaning it has a ECL of 5.

As for the Pixie you are right about the LA.

Darren I believe is right. I have a character (Fairy) that has a Improved familiar and I took the Dragon Cohort feat, so I have a PseudoDragon (which we counted as a 5 ECL creature and then added class levels (fighter/devoted defender[3.0]).

The Dragon Cohort feat gives you only a single follower(cohort) with a reduced ECL by 3 (for dragon types only). So I don't get all the other followers, but didn't want them anyways. Its a feat from the Draconomican.

The PD is my companion/familiar/mount and protects me fairly well while I fly and cast spells from its back.

you could get a pseudodragon from the improved familiar feat and take leadership and get the pixie as a cohort. That way you have have both.
