Colonial Gothic: Thoughts on play, images, miniatures, the Mandoag, and a Convention scenario

Ok, the Player Companion came out and added a lot of Templates and new weapons. I integrated them. I suggest that you mess around with the USER tab and try out both Core and Player Companion versions. The Core version does 4-5 random skills.
The Player Companion version does only a random take of 6 skills from the suggested skills of the Template.
The new weapons are integrated and all characters begin with a blackpowder weapon.

Enjoy!

I created a map using 17th century style graphics for a proposed Gothic America styled game, in a land I called the Crown Colonies thick with native sounding location names fitting the theme well. I've also been working on a set of Gothic horror map objects for use in a late Renaissance or Colonial period game.

Another resource might be Orson Scott Card's Alvin the Maker series which is set in a ficticious America, set about 1800. In that setting's canon, Benjamin Franklin is a wizard (especially with the electrical element), Napoleon wears a charm that makes him popular around his officers, with many people from history mentioned if not actually part of the NPC line up.

The Alvin the Maker books are very good, they would definitely make a good setting for a game in a period mostly forgotten by RPGs. His Indian prophet was a fascinating character. So that fire-starter guy. Lots of ideas in those books...

On the user tab, i put a fantasy colonial American new novels list. Its the lne recommended by the TKR website. Ill add your suggestion too. :)

So, here's something that we don't actually oftentimes get with our RPGs: actual music. I dunno if I'd load up on it for my games, but it might give an authentic feel.
First: The Anacreon Song..the song to which "The Star Spangled Banner" was tuned. It might make an interesting part of a game session. I heard it the other day whilst watching episodes of TURN: Washington's Spies.

The next is simply appropriate era music (1776). Much of it was set to common tunes you would recognize from other hymns and whatnot. Cool stuff here.

Here's a general link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCCab8DFfBY

A few of the TURN: Washington's Spies songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Syd4W9Dt5gI&list=PLNR13OKqmAQXaThEwjyteCr5QcXeBhESe&index=2

So, here's what I would do: the esteemed Mr. Clive Oldfield wrote an adventure called "Unfinished Symphony" and hid it in an issue of Warpstone(28). It would be a great one to convert to Colonial Gothic and then stick in something important like, 'The PCs are taksed with saving The ANacreon Song.' Play the scenario, and then play the music to the players and see if they get it. :)

So, the tabletop minis I settled on were DISPOSABLE HEROES. They are very appropriate for the era.

Most of the ones for the Savage Worlds ones still have all characters in the 1600's pirate boots and would be better for Witch Hunter. I am getting use out of the carriages, monsters and horses though :)

For the other minis i'm using the ones from my Touch of Evil game, and the Woodland Scenics prepainted minis. Indians were on sale from drivethrurpg 3d heroes too so I got those.

One CONVENTION SCENARIO I settled on is "A surprise for general gage" by Graeme Davis (of WFRP fame!) in the Gazetteer book.
