Combat Advantage Stack?

This is one of the things that I both love and hate about 4e.

From a simulationist perspective:
- You are flanking, gain CA
- Target is blinded, gain CA
- Target is prone, gain CA
- You are granted CA

Shouldn't you have an easier time of hitting a prone, blind, surrounded, and distracted opponent? Realistically, yes you should.

From a gamist perspective, no you shouldn't. Allowing those things to stack is just begging for another aspect of the abuse we have seen with save penalties and other things that stack. Pretty soon a rogue with just flanking CA *isn't good enough*.

I know this question has been answered at least a couple times up thread, but I wanted to share my opinion. Thanks enworld!

Funny, this issue had nothing to do with 4e-- The equivalent term in 3e was 'denied your Dex bonus to AC' which most of the above did. They just combined that with flanking which openned up a use for it, while also divorcing the Dex-requirement so that they can have the more streamlined armor system.

3e was just as gamist as 4e, bub. It just razzledazzled you with more numbercrunching.

Maybe I just had more 'houserule friendly' DM's then, because often we would find ourselves with stacking bonuses to hit.

That did come off as a 4e attack, and really I was just sort of pointing out that I like how they avoided that particular obstacle in this case. Only it turns out that this is nothing new. Thanks Wolverine.
