Combine Cleric & Sorcerer into one class...

Phaedrus

First Post
Actually I'd rather combine the Sorcerer and the Evangelist Cleric from Dragon (uses Sorcerer rules for casting, spells known & per day).

But anyway... how imbalanced are we talking here?

Follow Sorcerer for HD, BAB, weapons, armor. Use Cleric saves (or not?).
Cleric code of conduct. 4 skill points/level, class skills from both Sor & Cleric.

DC for spells... use Wisdom for Divine, Charisma for Arcane
(or would it make sense to combine to just one or the other?)

Actually I'm using Elements of Magic from EN World Publishing (which collapses all magic use into one system), but I'm curious to see how it would play out using normal rules.

Your thoughts?

The dragonlance campaign setting uses the mystic which is a divine-sorcerer. I think that would be basically what you are looking for. Then again, do you plan to give this class arcane and divine spells? If so, I don't think it would change too much so long as you still had a spells known for them to spontaneously cast from.

The new Miniatures Handbook has 4 new core classes in it, one of which is the Favored Soul, a divine caster with spontaneous casting. I don't have the book here now, but briefly they get:
d8 hp, 2 skill points, similar spell progression as sorcerer, weapons and armor like cleric, ALL saves good, number of spells /day based on CHA but DC based on WIS, no turning, bonus abilities and feats every few levels.
Personally, I think they made it too good. All saves good and the bonus feats put it way over the top.

The book goes on sale on friday the 17th.
