Comment concerning less than savory ENWorld posting tactics

First Post
ENWorld is a forum with a strong set of rules, and is moderated well in the enforcement of those rules.
Now, it would appear some people are taking advantage of this to close threads they do not like.

That is, they see a thread they do not like ...
They deliberately break a rule in their posts, knowing it will cause the thread to be closed.
They hope they can get away with it, without censure.

I've seen political statements, when everyone knows you don't place political statements here.
I've seen religious statements, when everyone knows you don't place religious statements here.
I've seen personal attacks, when it is known personal attacks will close the thread.
I've seen flaming and flagrant discourtesy, when it is known enough of that will close the thread.

Some people have figured out, in effect, how to censor what will be said on ENWorld.
And they are using their tactics with at least some success.

An unusual way of getting their way, and a dangerous (read: stupid) way, but they are doing it anyways. It must be awfully important to them, to try to manipulate what is said and not said here.

Best way to prevent such things from happening, IMO: Report the post to us mods (and maybe point out your suspicion).

*nod*. This is a matter to discuss directly with the mods, not something for an open discussion. At the moment, it sounds like you've only got speculation, no actual proof as to the motives. As such, you probably cannot give examples without risking a public accusation against the wrong people, which would be horribly rude. Speculating on why someone did something wrong is asking for trouble.

E-mail the mods, and give your examples to them. Let them sort it out. That's their job.

Don't call the kettle black if you are the pot?

I do not engage in the tactics that I described at the beginning of this post.
Breaking ENWorld rules is hazardous to your health, and thinking one can slip past the notice of the Moderators is even more hazardous to your health.

Obviously, I am not going to point out names, or give examples.
As pointed out above, if I did that it would be totally out of line (it would be public slander, as a matter of fact.)
I simply point the rules-breaking out because I've seen it happen, and just wanted to comment on the matter.

Nothing more.
No threads of mine have been disrupted by such tactics.

Edena, I would urge you to e-mail the moderators or report a post to them using the board's automated features. I have done so in a few cases where I thought threads were beginning to get out of hand.

Maybe it is me, but I think the moderators have been busier than usual of late. For example, the locked "Protests against a War with Mordor" thread did seem to go downhill very rapidly. Also, I have seen a few moderator warnings in some threads, such as "D&D 3.0: Death of the Imagination?"

My advice is to e-mail the moderators, and give examples where you think something is wrong. They can handle it.

If there is a problem, maybe the moderators can have an announcement reminding people that there are rules on these boards.

For myself, I try to treat everyone with respect. Personally, I don't have all the answers. So, I think it is wise for me to listen respectfully to the opinions of others. All I ask is for that same respect for my opinions and those of others.

Is it me, or are the moderators having to work a little harder of late. Of course, EN World is growing, so maybe it takes new users a little while to get a feel for the rules.

Still, I would like to say the moderators are doing a good jobs at keeping some discussions from turning into political discussions and keeping arguments from getting out of hand.

I think it is a combination of new users, stress from the economy, and stress from issues I can't mention here.
